2021 School Bond Referendum

Bond Referendum

Election Day is Tuesday, November 2, 2021, and a school construction bond referendum is on the ballot.  School Bond Referendum Facts booklets with bright orange graphics were recently sent home with every child. I hope that you’ll take a moment to locate the booklets and read the important school construction projects being planned. You'll see that Brookfield is listed as one of the schools impacted by this referendum. If passed, FCPS would begin construction of Brookfield's renovation in the 2023-24 school year!

New and renovated schools provide optimal spaces for teaching and learning–and the entire community benefits too. Our school construction and renovation programs help provide space for our students and educators. But, our buildings also serve the community as teen centers, recreation sites, polling places, places of worship, civic meeting spaces, School Age Child Care facilities, and more.

Before you vote, I hope that you’ll take a moment to read about how Fairfax County Public Schools plans to fund school projects with bond proceeds. If you cannot find the bond booklet, you can learn more about the 2021 School Bond Referendum here.

National Hispanic Heritage Month

NHM

National Hispanic Heritage Month has evolved over the years. Initially celebrated as a week in September, now a full month (Sept. 15 to Oct. 15). We celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month to recognize the achievements and contributions of Hispanic American champions who have inspired others to achieve success. The Library of Congress along with Smithsonian Institutions and National Museums joined in paying tribute over the month. Explore this website, https://www.hispanicheritagemonth.gov/ , to see events and discover documents, exhibits, films, blog posts, photos, and more from the National Archives and Presidential Libraries that highlight Hispanic culture.

Family Engagement Survey

Family

Last Spring we asked families to share their ideas for the events we might offer and the best time to offer it. A small number of parents responded, and they indicated they would like information offered in the evenings and Advanced Academics was the topic. Brookfield has planned those events and we hope to offer other opportunities throughout the year.

Please use the link below to complete the survey to share your thoughts with us about future opportunities. Thank you for all of your support and we look forward to our continued partnership.

Congratulations Concurrent Pilot Team!

Award Night

Last fall, as FCPS began trying Concurrent Instruction for the first time, many of Brookfield’s teachers stepped forward to help the division learn how to bring students safely back to the classroom, and to teach students at home simultaneously.  The work at Brookfield supported the divisions efforts later in the Spring, when many of the strategies designed by our teachers were adopted throughout the division.  For this reason, the Brookfield Concurrent Teaching Pilot Team was selected to receive a 2021 FCPS Team Excellence Award and was recognized on October 13th by school division officials.

Excellence Awards are given by the FCPS Leadership Team to celebrate the efforts and achievements of employees whose job performance produced exceptional results that supported the mission and vision of FCPS. We couldn’t be prouder of the team’s leadership and dedication to support our students and FCPS.  The members of this team are Cathy Velis, Cori Lonnett, Courtney Washington, Elizabeth Reed, Emily Zarybnisky, Heather Tickle, Jen McNulty, Kevin Feighery, Kristine Jessup, Lauren Hansen, Lisa Sharabi, Meghan Bourne, Roxsana Flores - Serrano, Sharron  Wooden, and Tracey SnyderDangler.

Please join us in congratulating these teachers on this well-deserved recognition!
