Franklin Families and Students,
Good afternoon and Happy Friday! I hope that you have had a good week. I am looking forward to attending the Oakton High School Homecoming Game this evening. It looks like it will be a great night for this community event and I hope to see many of you at the game!
We have several events coming up during the next month where we hope to partner with you so we can accomplish everything successfully. In the coming weeks we will have our first PTA Community Dining event at MOD Pizza, Federal Impact Aid Surveys will be going home, and our students will take the Youth Survey and SOS Screener. Additionally, all of our 7th grade Science students will go on a watershed field trip, our Civics team is sponsoring a Veterans Day recognition program, and our new NJHS members will officially be inducted. It is a busy time at FMS and we are glad that there are so many opportunities for our students.
I would encourage all of our students and families to check out some the information about our After-School programs at Franklin. We got started at the end of September and we are off to a great start. If your child plans to attend an after-school activity, you must complete the Registration Form in advance. The Program Preview offers general information about what is available and if you have any questions about the After-School Program, please email Mrs. Mollé.
Best wishes for a relaxing and enjoyable weekend.
Sincerely,
Dustin Wright
Principal

All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by November 5.

National Junior Honor Society Updates
8th Grade students who applied and were accepted to NJHS in the spring of 2021 received an email on 10/8 in their fcpsschools.net account with information regarding the Induction Ceremony. This ceremony will be after school on October 27. Students will be able to attend in person and we will invite parents to join us virtually. More details to come about virtual streaming for parents. This is a late bus day, so students can ride the late bus home or be picked up at the end of the first block by an adult. Please encourage your student to check their inbox for this email. As part of this email, students will be invited to join a Schoology group. This group will be our primary source of communication with members this year.
In an ongoing effort to refocus NJHS around the 5 Everyday Pillars the service requirement is going to be changing this year. Students will not be required to complete 15 service hours in service to an FCPS school, instead students will be completing a series of short character building activities over the course of the year. NJHS will also be sponsoring several service opportunities throughout the year, members will be required to participate in some way for at least one of those service opportunities.
After our induction ceremony, members will participate in a digital “Member Meeting” via our Schoology group. More detailed information regarding the changing service requirement will be presented to members during that presentation.
We look forward to a productive year of NJHS. If you have any questions, please contact the NJHS sponsors, Ms. Molly Bridenbaugh or Mr. Fletcher Phillips.
Veterans Day 2021
Franklin Family, are you or a family member a veteran or someone who is currently serving in the armed forces? If so, please consider the following opportunity. The Franklin MS Civics team is creating a video compilation of Franklin Community members who have served or are serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, to go with a music tribute from our wonderful music department. If you would be willing to share a part of your story or experiences with us, we would love to hear from you so we can share what you have to say with our students. A link to an interest form can be found here, and in the FMS all school schoology page. Thank you for your consideration, time and service.
