October 29: End of First Quarter
2-hour Early Release

HC

Dear Fort Belvoir Upper families,

Every week, we will provide an update on our COVID-19 status to keep you informed. If you have any questions about how we are staying safe so we can keep learning in person, please contact me.

We are pleased to report 0 positive COVID-19 cases this week.

As of today, no students and staff are learning and teaching remotely while in pause, quarantine, or isolation related to an active case reported by Fort Belvoir Upper School.

Remember, do your part to keep our school safe: Wear your mask, get vaccinated if you are eligible, practice healthy hygiene, and stay home when you are sick.

Thank you,

Principal
Jamey Chianetta

Student Rights & Responsibility

FCPS’ updated Student Rights & Responsibility booklet is now available online and in the ParentVue section of the Student Information System (SIS). The SR&R booklet explains expectations for student behavior, and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment.

Each year, we ask parents to review, sign, and return the SR&R to their child’s school. In ParentVue, you may now download and digitally sign the SR&R. Every parent/guardian with a ParentVUE account will see the SR&R upon login to ParentVUE until the SR&R acknowledgement has been completed.

Your name in the digital signature box must match the parent/guardian’s first and last name in SIS exactly before the signature will be accepted.

Please take a moment to log into ParentVue in your child’s SIS account to access the SR&R. Signatures are due by October 29, 2021.

Vax Up FCPS!

Fort Belvoir Upper Families,

Widespread vaccination is working to keep our students learning in person. As of this week, 0.004% of FCPS’ approximately 180,000 students are impacted by quarantines. If you, your child, or someone you know is eligible to receive the vaccine or a booster, we have great news for you.

A multi-agency effort to move into the next phase of vaccinations, with booster shots and the potential for children under 12 to be vaccinated, launches the Fairfax Community Vaccination Center (Fairfax CVC) on Friday, October 8. This large-scale COVID-19 vaccination clinic will open at the former Lord & Taylor store at Tysons Corner Center.

The center will offer:

  • First and second doses of both Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.
  • Booster doses of the Pfizer vaccine to individuals eligible for the vaccine booster.
  • An additional dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccines for individuals who are immunocompromised.

The Fairfax CVC will operate Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Appointments are encouraged but walk-ins are welcome. Individuals seeking a booster of the Pfizer vaccine or an additional dose of either vaccine are asked to bring their vaccination card showing the dates of previous doses.

Read more about the Fairfax CVC online. To find an appointment visit vaccinate.virginia.gov or call 877-VAX-IN-VA.

Information Regarding the Care Room

With cold and flu season upon us, your child may be sent home from the Care room after presenting with COVID-like symptoms. Please know that we all want our students in the classroom as soon as they are well. Therefore, beginning today, Monday, October 4th, the Return to School form is no longer required, and we will follow these guidelines:

Students may return to school when their symptoms have improved and they have not had a fever without fever-reducing medications for at least 24 hours, AND have at least one of the following:

Proof of a Negative COVID-19 Test:

-PCR (test result from lab or physician)

-Rapid (test result from lab or physician)

-Home Test (picture of negative home test AND note from parent attesting the result is for the specific child and to the date the test was administered)

OR

Physician’s Note:

Note from a healthcare provider following a clinical evaluation stating the cause of symptoms is not COVID-19 and clearing the child to return to school.

Please note, if your child has been identified as a potential close contact, or close contact to a positive case, your child will follow the guidance provided by the Fairfax County Health Department to be cleared to return to school.

If you have any questions about this new process, or how to navigate your child’s return to school, please contact the office or clinic.

Advanced Academic Program (AAP)

Families of students in grades 2-6 who are interested in referring their child for Level IV full-time AAP are welcome to attend a virtual session regarding Level IV referrals and screening. The link to the meeting is here. If you are unable to attend, the AAP Screening and Identification video has all of the information that families need when completing the referral. Families are also welcome to watch this video, and then reach out Ms. Nietert (annietert@fcps.edu) with any questions that they might have.
