Check out what is happening at OHES! Check out our new blacktop! They will be putting on the finishing touches(the lines) tomorrow. Not only did we get a new blacktop, but they put in some drainage and grass. Thank you FCPS facilities!

Welcome our New Family Liaison
Welcome Stacy Allsbrook-Huisman to the Orange Hunt Family! Stacy joins our team in the new position as a Family Liaison. Stacy has an extensive background in community engagement, especially working with military families in public schools. As an active duty military spouse, Stacy understands the challenges of a highly mobile lifestyle. She’s worked as a journalist for the last ten years covering topics relating to military life and school transition. She’s also the co-author of the resource guidebook Seasons of My Military Student: Practical Ideas for Parents and Teachers. She recently hosted a webinar for FCPS’s Parent Resource Center on Military Families and School Transition. And as a bonus, she spent several years stationed in Germany and her children attending German Immersion program. Stacy has a rich and diverse history of family engagement apart from her experience working with military families. We are excited to welcome her aboard to support all of our Orange Hunt families.
Feel free to contact Ms. Huisman at any time if you have questions, concerns or just want to say hello.

Playground Closed to Public During School Hours
We are happy to share our outdoor spaces like the playground and fields when school is not in session. We have classes using outdoor spaces and playground throughout our day. For safety and access, the playground is not available until dismissal after 3:30 pm each day. Per Regulation 8420.11, parents and non-students are not permitted to use the playground, fields, and blacktop until after 3:30 pm. Our enrolled students have recess and PE up until that time.
At dismissal, if you are wanting to wait for your child, we expect you to wait behind the fence or on the space with the single tree near the parking lot. It is important that you access the areas without interrupting the play of students and you should walk around the quad units. Thank you for your help in keeping students safe.
Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid
Beginning on October 13, FCPS will be asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid.
Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.
For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's homeroom teacher. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the boxes in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by November 5. All results are confidential.
More information is available online.
Health Updated Process
With cold and flu season upon us, your child may be sent home from the care room after presenting COVID-like symptoms. We all want our students back in the classroom as soon as they are well. Starting Monday, October 4, the Return to School form is no longer needed, we will follow the following guidelines.
Students may return to school when their symptoms have improved and they have not had a fever without fever-reducing medications for at least 24 hours, AND have at least one of the following:
|
Proof of a Negative COVID-19 Test:
- PCR (test result from lab or physician)
- Rapid (test result from lab or physician)
- Home Test (picture of negative home test AND note from parent attesting the result is for the specific child and to the date the test was administered)
|
OR
|
Physician’s Note
Note from a healthcare provider following a clinical evaluation stating the cause of symptoms is not COVID-19 and clearing the child to return to school.
|
Please note, if your child has been identified as a potential close contact or close contact to a positive case, your child will follow the guidance provided by the health department to be cleared to return to school.
If you have any questions about this new process, or how to navigate your child’s return to school, please feel free to reach out to any member of our admin team.
Updated CogAT Information
Some of you previously received a paper notification regarding the Cognitive Abilities Test for your student at Orange Hunt ES. This test is typically administered to all 2nd grade students, however, we also administer the assessment to student who are new to FCPS and do not have an abilities test on file.
The assessment will be delivered online this year over three days and we have shifted the student test dates to Monday, Oct 25-Wednesday Oct.27. Because of the new platform, we have realized the need for more “hands on deck” and are better able to support the students taking this assessment by shifting the administration dates. Thank you for your patience as we work to administer the CogAT this year.

Schoology
The School Based Technology Specialists of the West Springfield Pyramid have made this video to help parents with the basics of our new Learning Management System Schoology. Making sure you have an active parent account will help you in supporting your child’s learning as well as get communication from your child’s teacher and the school.

FCPS Cares!
FCPS CARES is an opportunity for staff, parents, students, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others. Every month, a nominated employee from each region and Central Offices will be recognized as an FCPS CARES of the Month recipient. We’ll share their names in Employee News, and they will also have access to a new FCPS CARES banner for their profile photo in Outlook. Watch this video to learn more about FCPS CARES. We also encourage you to acknowledge a staff member who has gone above and beyond! We love our OHES staff members, let's tell them how we feel!
