Tree Planting at GBW!
Last Friday our GBW students helped plant ten trees donated by the Urban Forestry Division of Fairfax County. It was a beautiful day for planting and to learn the benefits of tree planting for the environment.
One benefit? Shade! Both students and staff look forward to the day when these trees will provide shade on hot days.

Information from this survey can result in millions of dollars in additional grant funds each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

Digital Citizenship Week kicks off next week! We’ll be doing daily activities that promote students' well-being as well as having Spirit Days to support our daily theme. Students will have the opportunity to reflect on how they can use technology to be a positive influence in their community.
Let’s Duct Tape Mr. Blount!!
Are you ready to duct-tape Principal Blount to the wall of the school lobby? Well, that’s what we’re going to do … IF we reach our fundraising goal of $5,000 by October 15 (the same day as Movie Night)!
We have $1200 to raise, just HALF of our GBW families to join the PTA to make this happen!!!
Every dollar raised will directly support our staff, students, and school.
Please consider joining the PTA if you haven't already. All proceeds directly support our school. Here's the link to register: https://gbwpta.ptboard.com/formvw?store=1784&form=8. It will take no more than 2 minutes to join!
 Adopt-A-Highway Fall Cleanup SUCCESS!
The GBW PTA has adopted Stringfellow Road between Poplar Tree Road and Point Pleasant Drive through the VA Department of Transportation Adopt-A-Highway program. On Indigenous Peoples Day, the GBW PTA hosted its second cleanup of GBW school grounds and Stringfellow Road.
The most common items of litter included candy/food wrappers, cigarette ends, and paper face masks. The most unusual litter items included a pair of pants and stuffing from a teddy bear.
Unfortunately, we are at risk of this GBW PTA initiative ending in the spring without a parent volunteer to continue leading this effort. If you are interested in co-chairing Adopt a Highway for the remainder of this school year and taking over as Adopt a Highway chair next school year, please e-mail jenmanaloto@gmail.com
Thank you to our wonderful parents, students, siblings, and staff for helping keep our earth clean. We hope you'll join us again in the spring for our Earth Day cleanup of GBW and Stringfellow Road!
CFA Spirit Night
Thanks to everyone who picked up chicken from Chick-fil-A two weeks ago! We earned $440 for GBW PTA.
