Dear Fairfax,
Happy Friday! Lots going at FHS this week. On Monday our staff participated in professional development focused on cultural responsiveness and on Wednesday all hands were on deck to administer the PSAT/NMSQT to 953 of tenth and eleventh graders. Scores for the PSAT will be released in early January.
What a week in athletics! CONGRATULATIONS to Junior golfer Josh Duangmanee who won the VHSL Individual Golf Championship shooting a 65 which was 7 below par! JOSH IS A STATE CHAMPION!!! Our varsity Cheer team competed at the Cheer District tournament this week and our team was amazing, finishing in 4th place with a strong clean performance. They are moving on to Regionals next Wednesday, October 20th at South County with an approximate start time as 5:30pm. A special shout out to 1st Team All District accolades going to freshman Alyssa Rickman and sophomore Carly Rivera-Galvez! Our Volleyball program hosted a fantastic Dig Pink Night which brings coaches, athletes and communities together to create a lasting tradition that funds metastatic breast cancer research through The Side-Out Foundation. The undefeated varsity field hockey team wrapped up their regular season finishing in 1st place in the Patriot District. The district tournament starts next week with the LIONS opening up on Monday at 7pm v. Lake Braddock Secondary. Lastly, good luck to our Cross Country team who competes on Saturday in the Milestat meet in Mechanicsville, Virginia.
If you are looking for something to do tonight, I strongly suggest you travel to Wt. Woodson where our undefeated LIONS take on our cross town rivals. Kickoff is at 7pm! Use this link to purchase your tickets in advance and to avoid long lines: www.tinyurl.com/woodsontick
To streamline our practices for responding to students who have been identified as testing positive for COVID we have hired a COVID case manager. I’m pleased to share that Ms Jennie Choi began working with us this week. Should you need to report your child has tested positive for COVID please call (703) 219-2227 and Ms. Choi will follow up with you. A reminder that students have the opportunity to continue to engage in instruction while they are paused and will be marked present unless a parent or guardian excuses their absence.
It looks like fall may make an appearance on Sunday! I wish you all a relaxing and safe weekend.
Best regards,
Maureen
Federal Impact Aid Survey
On Monday, October 18th, Fairfax HS will be distributing Federal Impact Aid form during your students Lion Time.
Please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's Lion Time teacher. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the boxes in Section 3 and sign/date the form. All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by Friday, November 5. All results are confidential.
Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.
