Bonnie Brae Updates October 15

Bonnie Brae Friday Updates

News from the administration

Happy Friday  Bonnie Brae Community,

It is hard to believe that we are already half way through the month of October. We hope that your week was as wonderful as our week has been at school. Here are a few things for your attention.😊

We continue to thank the many parents who continue to support our school by volunteering in our cafeteria! Each day your support is noticed by our students and staff. We can’t thank you enough!

Hopefully, you have seen the announcement from our Region 4 Superintendent, Ms. Gros about the principal selection process. Here are the highlights:

  • The Bonnie Brae community (parents, community, faculty and staff ) is invited to attend the Zoom meeting to be held Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at 5:30 p.m. A link will be shared the night before the event and all attendees are asked to sign in to better facilitate the event.
  • An advisory interview panel  (three staff and three parent representatives from the BBES school community) will be held virtually on Monday, November 15, 2021.  If you are interested in serving as an advisory panelist, please submit your information by close of business on November 1, 2021,  using the following link (https://forms.gle/PxgCXsUaWrUJegvNA).
  • Should you wish to submit other information you feel is vital in the selection of the next Bonnie Brae principal, such information should be sent to apmcgeehan@fcps.edu. By Monday, November 1, 2021. Such information is confidential.  The above information and more will be reviewed at the meeting on October 26. WE hope that you plan to attend.

Just a note that classroom teachers have been reaching out to parents to have a conversation to connect with families about how the year has gone so far. The purpose of this conversation is to discuss how your child has returned to school and has adjusted to the new school year. This conversation might also include building friendships, being a good friend and classmate, how best they are learning, as well as other academic considerations. Please make full use of this opportunity to collaborate with your child’s teacher as we know our children benefit when parents and teachers are united and working to together on our students’ behalf.

As always, please continue to reach out to us if you have questions concerns or need for us in anyway, Have a wonderful weekend!

Dwayne Young, Interim principal

Elaine Woo, Assistant Principal

Scott Hawk, Assistant Principal

COVID Weekly Update

Every week, we will provide an update on our COVID-19 status to keep you informed. Parents interested in following the daily case reporting can refer to the COVID-19 Dashboard on the FCPS website. If you have any questions about how we are staying safe so we can keep learning in person, please contact the BBES office at 703-321-3900.

Bonnie Brae reports 1 positive COVID-19 cases this week.

1 is student and 0 are staff.

6 students and staff were learning and teaching remotely while in a pause, quarantine, or isolation. However, 5 students are no longer paused as of today.

Remember, do your part to keep our school safe: Wear your mask, get vaccinated if you are eligible, practice healthy hygiene, and stay home when you are sick.

Guidance for Student Sent Home with COVID-Like Illness

With cold and flu season upon us, your child may be sent home from the care room after presenting COVID-like symptoms. We all want them back in the classroom as soon as they are well. We will follow the following guidelines that have been advised by the Fairfax County Health Department and FCPS.

Students may return to school when their symptoms have improved and they have not had a fever without fever-reducing medications for at least 24 hours, AND have at least one of the following:

covid

Please note, if your child has been identified as a potential close contact or close contact to a positive case, your child will follow the guidance provided by the health department to be cleared to return to school. Additional information regarding health protocols can be found in the FCPS Health and Safety Guidance Document

Positivity Project

Positivity Project

We continue to work to empower students to build positive relationships through the Positivity Project. Next week's focus is Forgiveness.

You forgive those who have done wrong. You accept that people make mistakes. Why do you think saying, “I’m sorry,” can be hard for people?

“Life becomes easier when you learn to accept an apology you never got” -Robert Brault

Fairfax County Youth Survey (6th Grade Only)

The Fairfax County School Board and the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors work together to administer the Fairfax County Youth Survey. The survey is given to all students in grades 6, 8, 10, and 12 each fall. It provides a wealth of information about a variety of topics related to our youth that influence their physical and mental well-being, from sleep and nutritional habits to substance abuse behaviors to symptoms of depression and suicidal thoughts. Sixth grader students at Bonnie Brae will take the survey in November. For additional information and opt-out information please click HERE.

Picture Retake Day- Rescheduled

Lifetouch has rescheduled our Picture Retake Day to Friday, October 29. If your student missed the September Picture Day date or would simply like a retake, they may get their picture taken on this day.

Books bring joy

Scholastic Book Fair @ BBES

Our BBES Scholastic Book Fair is set for October 25-29. All classes will come to the Library on Friday, October 22 for a preview. During the week of October 25-29, students in K-3 will come during their Specials time and 4-6 will be assigned a time. All classrooms have been scheduled for both a preview and a checkout time.  For families, two evening slots for Book Fair will be offered on Monday, October 25 and Wednesday, October 27 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM.

This year, families can prepare an eWallet for their students by visiting our Scholastic Page and adding funds. This would eliminate the need for students to carry cash on their own.

We are in need of some Parent Volunteers to help support students browsing during the Book Fair. Please visit our Sign-up Genius if you would like to participate during the week.

Parent Coffee Meeting

Every month, our Administrative Team offers an opportunity for our community to come together and hear about happenings at BBES! Please join us on Wednesday, October 27 from 10:00 - 11:00 am via Zoom.

Please continue to use the sidewalks to ensure safety of staff, students, community, and bus drivers.
