News & Notes

Updated Health-Related Processes

With cold and flu season upon us, your child may be sent home from the care room after presenting COVID-like symptoms. We all want our students back in the classroom as soon as they are well. As of this Monday, the Return to School form is no longer needed. Students may return to school when their symptoms have improved and they have not had a fever without fever-reducing medications for at least 24 hours, AND have at least one of the following:

  • Proof of a Negative COVID-19 Test:
    • PCR (test result from lab or physician)
    • Rapid (test result from lab or physician)
    • Home Test (picture of negative home test AND note from parent attesting the result is for the specific child and to the date the test was administered)

      OR
  • Physician’s Note: Note from a healthcare provider following a clinical evaluation stating the cause of symptoms is not COVID-19 and clearing the child to return to school.

Please note: If your child has been identified as a potential close contact or close contact to a positive case, your child will follow the guidance provided by the Health Department to be cleared to return to school.

If you have any questions about how to navigate your child’s return to school, please call the school office at 703-924-7700.

Student Holiday on Monday, October 11th

Please note that Monday, October 11th, is a School Planning Day and students do not report to school. The office will be open regular hours.

“EL Connections” ESOL Parent Night – Monday, October 11th, 6:30 – 8 p.m.

All ESOL (English as a Second Language) parents and guardians are invited to attend a special presentation at the school on Monday, October 11th at 6:30 p.m. At this event, which will be presented in Spanish and Arabic as well as English, participants will have the chance to learn about the structure of the ESOL program and how it supports their children’s learning .

They’ll also have the chance to literally get connected to what their children are learning at school by signing up for ParentVUE accounts and getting help with using Schoology, the school system’s new learning management system.

FLE Information/Parent Preview Night

Family Life Education (FLE) instruction will begin during the second quarter of the school year. Every grade level and classroom has a different schedule of when they plan to incorporate this curriculum. Your teacher will let you know prior to the lessons beginning. As a reminder, parents/guardians have the right to opt their child out of all or part of the Family Life Education program. Follow this link to forms for opting out, https://www.fcps.edu/academics/elementary-school-academics-k-6/elementary-family-life-education.

All FLE material is available for you to view in Schoology. FLE parent preview night will be hosted virtually on October 14th from 6 to 7 p.m. The link will be sent out closer to the date. If you have any further questions, you can email assistant principal Allen Dickens (adickens@fcps.edu). Thank you!

Field Day Is Next Friday, October 15th! Volunteers Still Needed!

We are excited to be able to host Field Day for the first time since 2019! As with all things, there will be some adjustments due to ongoing COVID-19 protocols. Participating groups will be smaller, and spectators cannot be accommodated this year. Kool Pops will be provided for students at the end of the event.

One thing, however, remains the same: Students should wear clothing and shoes appropriate for the weather and the activity.

We also still need volunteer support. Please make sure you are able and willing to work your station the entire time block, upper grades in the morning and primary grades in the afternoon.

If you are able to volunteer, please sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c44acae2ba6fa7-fall.

Please be sure to review the Lane Volunteer Procedures and Logistics presentation here.
