Refillable Water Bottles
Please be sure to send your child in with a refillable water bottle every day. We are having many children ask for water bottles or cups on a daily basis and we are not able to keep up the demand.

Kiss & Ride
Our Kiss & Ride continues to be a challenge due to the volume. While it is getting more efficient, we need to send some reminders to help keep everyone on, and off, the road safe.
There have been concerns raised by our neighbors and we want to work with them to keep things moving as quickly as possible.
The Fairfax County Police Department has been contacted by the community and will be observing for traffic and/or parking violations that could result in a warning and/or ticket being issued. We’ve included a couple of reminders below that are related to the concerns raised by the community:
- Respect private driveways and do not use them to turn around
- U-Turns in the middle of the road are illegal and technically a moving violation
- Respect all “No Parking” areas at all times
- Arriving after 4:05 usually results in minimal wait time. Kiss & Ride is open until 4:15 or when all students have been picked up.
- If there is no room in the lane to turn in, please continue down Miller Road and make a safe u-turn in an effort not to block traffic
- Yield to oncoming traffic where the road is narrow. This is the biggest safety concern and most difficult to manage. Please be patient.
Thank you for partnering with us to keep our children safe.

Outdoor Lunch
Thank you to all of the parents who are volunteering to supervise outdoor lunch. Currently, students in Grades 3-6 have the opportunity to eat outside a couple of days a week (depending on weather and supervision). We are looking forward to extending this to 2nd grade soon.
At this time, we feel that our littlest panthers (Kindergarteners and 1st graders) are still learning the routines and expectations for inside lunch and are not yet ready to eat outside in a less structured setting. We will continue to watch them grow and mature and will share this opportunity with them when they are ready.

Next week, students will begin learning about Integrity. Students with integrity are honest and speak the truth. They present themselves genuinely and sincerely.

Virtual Career Fair
As part of Oakton Elementary School's Counseling program and FCPS’ focus on Career Readiness, students will have the opportunity to learn about potential options for their future! To help students with this, we will be hosting a Virtual Career Fair for 5th and 6th graders on Friday, November 19th from 9:30-11:30. We are in need of parents, family members, or friends of the family who are available and willing to talk with our students about their profession. If you are interested or know of someone who is, please fill out this short survey https://forms.gle/iX6p5XugCCm9FAbj6. The deadline to submit your interest is Friday, October 29. If you have any questions please let us know.
