Stenwood Hive Happenings

Hive Happenings Newsletter

Dear Stenwood Families,

We have had an awesome start to Help the Hive this week!  Thank you for all of your generous support to the PTA!  We are just under halfway to our goal, with a little over $11,000 of the $25,750 goal.

As we approach the time of year when it is chilly in the morning and warmer in the day, our Lost and Found is growing.  Please make sure to label any outer layers and have your child check Lost and Found.

We have decided to postpone our fall field day until the spring.  We hope by then community transmission will be lower and we will bring back some of our traditional games and activities.

As of October 4th, FCPS has changed the policy for students to return to school after being sent home sick.  See below for the specific information regarding the change.

This coming Monday, October 11th is a student holiday, we look forward to seeing you back on Tuesday.  For longer range planning, Monday, November 1st and Tuesday, November 2nd are also student holidays, along with a two hour early release on Friday, October 29th marking the end of the first quarter.

Outdoor Lunch Option

Backpack

If you are interested in your child being outside (weather permitting), please send your child in with a towel in a cinch sack backpack so that they can easily carry their towel out to recess and through the lunch line.  Make sure to clearly label your child’s items with their name.

If your child has a food allergy and needs assistance, please ask your child to seek assistance from our staff member that is outside.

Please make sure you talk to your child about the expectations of this eating option.  Should your child be unable to follow these expectations,  they will need to return to the cafeteria.

  • Cafeteria and Outdoor Eating Updates - Please review the expectations for eating outdoors:
    • Once you pick a place to sit outside, you must stay seated for the rest of lunch in that spot
    • You must maintain 6 feet from other students
    • Clean up will happen at the end of lunch.  Please make sure to clean up all of your trash.
    • Raise your hand if you need something
    • Upper grade students 3-6: students should not need to go to the bathroom unless they have a medical plan that indicates they need unlimited access to the restroom
    • Use a reasonable volume talking to only those immediately around you
    • If a parent volunteer or staff ask you to go back inside, please do so without any disagreeing.  You will have another opportunity tomorrow.

SR&R Acknowledgement and

Digital Consent Due

Student Rights and Responsibilities - Finalized SR&R documents are now posted here.  This handbook explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable and supportive school environment.

Parent/Guardians please acknowledge receipt of the SR&R in your SIS ParentVue Account. If you are unable to do so, you can sign the Parent Signature Sheet to acknowledge that you have reviewed this document and return the signed signature sheet to school.  These forms are past due, so please verify in your ParentVue account that you have completed this task to to save our office staff the time in following up with each family.

Digital Citizenship Skills- Our classrooms will be using a variety of resources that support your child’s learning, Portrait of a Graduate, and Digital Citizenship Skills. Listed on the Stenwood website are digital tools that we may use throughout the year. The Digital Permission Form asks for the required parental consent of specific apps and instructional software that may be used during instruction. Please complete the Digital Permission Form as soon as possible and contact our SBTS, Jackie Krum, if you have any questions.

Activating Your SIS ParentVUE Account

The SIS (Student Information System) ParentVUE Account is an online tool parents can use to access information about their child’s attendance, report cards, discipline incidents, health information, and more. In ParentVUE, you can also view student progress reports/report cards and SOL scores.

Your secure SIS ParentVUE Account offers you the ability to use one username/password to login to both the SIS ParentVUE Account and Schoology.

Using the SIS ParentVUE account, parents will also be able to view school information, including teacher e-mail addresses, the FCPS calendar, and emergency contact information. Visit the FCPS website and use the search function and keywords “SIS Parent Overview” for more information.

Many of our Stenwood families have already activated your SIS ParentVUE account with the activation key. If you are unable to login to your account, you may need to reset your password on the SIS Parent Account login page (https://sisparent.fcps.edu):

  • Select the “Forgot Password” button.
  • Your username is the primary email address you have on file with us in our Student Information System.
  • More information is available here.

Newly enrolled families should have received an activation key for your account.  If you have not yet activated your account, please reach out to Sonja Hunt (snhunt@fcps.edu ) or Brian Spector (bmspector@fcps.edu).

Please take action now to ensure your account is active, so that you won’t miss a beat!

Storybook Pumpkin Festival!

1

Now is the time for students to share their love of books by decorating a pumpkin as a favorite storybook character.  Students can decorate a pumpkin (one small enough for them to carry) and bring it to the library anytime between October 18-29 where it will be on display for all to see.

Students should also include a “clue card” with 3 clues for everyone to guess the character.  On the reverse-side of the card should be the answer along with the student’s name. You can find the official guidelines and a slide show of previous years pumpkins in the Library Schoology Course.

PS…please don’t carve the pumpkins!  As always, contact Mrs. Cole with any questions you might have.

  • When is it difficult to show integrity in your day-to-day life?

School Meals and

Free/Reduced Lunch Applications

Each student is eligible for one no-cost breakfast and one no-cost lunch each school day. Check out the  FCPS school meals menus.  If your student would like to purchase additional meals or a la carte items, they will need to pay. An additional meal is $4.50.

The best way to purchase items this year is to use MySchoolBucks. Set up your student’s MySchoolBucks account and help them memorize their pin. If you have questions about MySchoolBucks, our front office staff can help.

Free/Reduced Lunch Applications are available for those who qualify and wish to initiate or renew their applications for the 21-22 school year.  While a school breakfast and lunch are provided at no cost this school year, your family may benefit from keeping your application up to date. The application is available HERE
