Kiss and Ride

New traffic pattern starting Tuesday! Thank you to families who have helped us by coming to Kiss and Ride at or after 3:45.  We have notice a difference in traffic.  Starting Tuesday we will be trying a new pattern in Kiss and Ride which will allow us to have two flows ow drop off and arrival.  We ask that families slow down and pay attention as you arrive to kiss and Ride.  You will arrive the same way, but as you get to closer to Door 3, you will be directed to one of two lanes.  Three cars will be dismissed at a time from each lane. A staff member will direct you on the new pattern.

Thank you for your patience as we make Kiss and Ride an efficient process.

weCare@school - Emergency Care Information System

Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to ensuring that the climate in all FCPS facilities is safe and secure. In support of this goal, FCPS provides weCare@school (weCare), an emergency care information system, available to FCPS parents and guardians who have registered for their own Parent account. weCare helps manage emergency medical information by enabling parents to enter and update their children’s medical data at their convenience online. Contact information provided automatically enrolls parents to receive eNotify communications from the district and their child’s school. eNotify is the communications tool for FCPS emergency, attendance, and essential outreach messages. Messages are sent via e-mail, telephone, and SMS.

In ParentVUE you will click on the FCPS Links on the left hand side menu.

Health Updates

Daily Symptom Check

Parents are asked to screen their children every morning before sending them to school.  If you have any questions about whether your child is able to come to school based on symptoms or exposure, please call the office. Please review this link as you make decisions for school attendance.   Daily Health Screening Please do not send your child to school if they have been identified as a close contact to COVID case.  Please do notify administration if your child is pausing at home due to an exposure. Important! A negative COVID test does not clear your child to return to school. A physician must complete return documentation when students receive the sick student notification form.

Sick Child at School ~ Guidance for Return to School

If your child is sent home from school with COVID like symptoms, parents must have a physician complete the Return to School form with appropriate documentation. Please do not return to school without the form completed by a care provider and appropriate documentation.

Administrative Verification Process for Return to School After Sick Student Notification from the School

The Sick Student Notification is received by a parent when your child shows any symptoms while present at school. This form is required for return to school with physician completion. It must be returned directly to an administrator before your child can return to school. Parents should not send children on the bus or drop at kiss n ride without having an administrator verify completion of health return documentation. An email with a photo of the documentation or checking in the office with your child on the morning of return will meet this expectation. Students without the correct clearance will not be allowed to return to class.

Guidance for Families  ~ Pause, Contact Tracing and Quarantine

Guidance for families regarding pause, quarantine, contact tracing and close contacts and the meaning and impact of each of these, please see the following resource: Pause, Contact Tracing, Quarantining

COVID Notifications Update for FCPS

If there is a new COVID case within the school, we will send out a community notification on Friday or the last day of school for the week.

FCPS Students to Participate in Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener

FCPS is committed to supporting the well-being of all students and building caring school cultures that foster mental wellness. This year, students in all grades will have the opportunity to participate in a Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener. SEL skills include self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.

The screener will review these skills, as well as students’ relationships, feelings of belonging, feelings about their school environment, and mood. These skills are important for collaboration and perspective taking. They help students manage their feelings, address challenges, and reach their goals.

Teachers will complete a survey on their observations of students' skills and experiences for students in grades K-2 in the winter and spring. Students in grades 3-12 will reflect and report on their own skills and experiences in the fall, winter, and spring. The SEL screener allows staff to gather information regarding student strengths and needs, thereby enhancing programming for schools, classrooms, and individual students. Results will be shared with parents and guardians following each assessment window.

Students in grades 3-6 have brought home more information in their Tuesday Folder on September 7, 2021.  More information about the SEL Screener is available online.

We Need Your Consent for Select Digital Resources-Parent Action Needed

At Cardinal Forest Elementary School, our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here:https://cardinalforestes.fcps.edu/adopteddigitalresources Additionally, you can find more information about approved digital resources in FCPS here: https://www.fcps.edu/resources/technology/digital-resources.

Included on this page is also a link to a form where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval and why we must request your consent before using certain tools. We encourage you to complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources we’ve chosen to use this year.
