Principal's Message
Dear Haycock Families,
It was wonderful to see so many of you last Friday evening at the PTA sponsored outdoor movie night. What a fun evening with perfect weather under the stars! Thank you to our wonderful PTA for sponsoring this family event that brought so many of us together.
We hope that you enjoy the student holiday on Monday. Staff members will be meeting and planning together on Monday. We are embarking on collective learning pods this year around the importance of rigor, equity and relationships.
Thank you for your continued support, patience, and grace over the past weeks as we got students back in the building five days a week. It has been so rewarding to see students settling in and happy to be here. We, too, are happy and excited to have everyone back at Haycock. As we continue to navigate this year together, there are no doubt challenges ahead of us, but we hope to be able to celebrate the successes and joys collectively with you, while supporting our teachers and staff so they can prioritize their time and efforts on setting each student up for a successful day of learning. As Haycock United, we are striving to make Haycock a great place for each and every student.
With appreciation,
Dr. Liz Beaty Ms. Heather Boyd Ms. Dana Chen

COVID-Like Symptoms - Return to School
Effective Monday, October 4, the Sick Student Return to School Form was retired. In its place, parents of students who are sent home with COVID-like symptoms will receive an information form called the “FCPS Guidance for Student Sent Home with COVID-Like Illness”. A doctor’s note will no longer be required (but still may be submitted if the physician feels that the symptoms are caused by something other than COVID), and families may instead have their student return to school when their symptoms are improved, and they have not had a fever without fever-reducing medications for 24 hours AND they have proof of a negative COVID test. Parents will not need to return the information form. This change is being made in response to the difficulty for families to get medical evaluations and the widespread availability of testing. Home test kit results will be accepted with a note from the parent attesting to the administration and results.

Parents of Bike Riders
Please review safety rules with your student if they are a bike rider. Bikes must be walked while on school property. Also, when students are riding on paths or sidewalks on their way home where other students and parents are walking, they should slow down, use a bell, or call out that they are coming as they approach walkers. We have had incidences of near misses or others being knocked down by bike riders. Thank you for your assistance with this.

Community Vaccination Clinic Opens October 8
Widespread vaccination is working to keep our students learning in person. As of this week, 0.004% of FCPS’ approximately 180,000 students are impacted by quarantines. If you, your child, or someone you know is eligible to receive the vaccine or a booster, we have great news for you.
A multi-agency effort to move into the next phase of vaccinations, with booster shots and the potential for children under 12 to be vaccinated, launches the Fairfax Community Vaccination Center (Fairfax CVC) on Friday, October 8. This large-scale COVID-19 vaccination clinic will open at the former Lord & Taylor store at Tysons Corner Center.
The center will offer:
- First and second doses of both Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.
- Booster doses of the Pfizer vaccine to individuals eligible for the vaccine booster.
- An additional dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccines for individuals who are immunocompromised.
The Fairfax CVC will operate Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Appointments are encouraged but walk-ins are welcome. Individuals seeking a booster of the Pfizer vaccine or an additional dose of either vaccine are asked to bring their vaccination card showing the dates of previous doses.
Read more about the Fairfax CVC online. To find an appointment visit vaccinate.virginia.gov or call 877-VAX-IN-VA.
