Walk to School Day - October 6

Oak View is encouraging students and their families to walk to school to promote healthy and active lifestyles. It is a great opportunity to give walking a try if you don’t normally get to school that way. This year, we do not have an organized train, however feel free to coordinate with your neighbors to walk together. If you live too far away, you might consider driving to a local parking lot and walking from there (St. Mary’s Church or University Mall). Just keep in mind that walking may take some extra time and make sure you get to school before 8:30 AM.

Digital Resource Permission Required

Oak View teachers use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here: https://oakviewes.fcps.edu/adopteddigitalresources. Additionally, you can find more information about approved digital resources in FCPS here: https://www.fcps.edu/resources/technology/digital-resources. If you haven’t already, please use this link to indicate whether or not your student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. Thank you for your support!

Storybook Pumpkin Festival

Oak View Librarian, Mrs. Atkins, is delighted to host our first annual Storybook Pumpkin Festival! Every Oak View student is invited to join in the fun and create their own Storybook Pumpkin to be displayed in our library. Pumpkins must be smaller than your child's head, fit on a paper plate and in a backpack. Pumpkins can be painted, colored or added to in every other way but cannot be carved! Pumpkins must represent an elementary school appropriate book character. See all additional guidelines linked here. Storybook pumpkins will be displayed between October 18 and October 29 and can be delivered anytime within that window. This is a completely optional activity for students to celebrate fall!

Daily Symptom Check at Home

Thank you for your continued diligence in keeping your children home if they are sick or displaying any COVID-like symptoms. One of the most important prevention strategies guidelines is screening students daily for any signs of illness prior to leaving home for school. Any student who is ill or presents with COVID-like symptoms is to remain at home. The daily health screening questionnaire and all translated version can be found on our Health and Safety Guidance document at https://www.fcps.edu/return-school/health-and-safety-guidance-document. This document provides the details of the policies and protocols related to COVID-19, and it is continually updated to align with public health guidance as it evolves during the school year. Daily completion of the health screening is done on an honor basis and does not need to be sent to the school. More information is available here.
