Lemon Road Community News 10.3.21

Message from Mrs. Castillo

Spirit Wear

Friday was a fantastic school spirit day! It was great to see students and staff in their new spirit wear, polos, and school colors. Thank you to our PTA for the polos and fall spirit wear sale. I also enjoyed watching the release of our monarch butterfly with Ms. Busch and our second graders. Finally, I was honored to share the 2021 – 2022 SCA Officers to the students and staff. Listening to the speeches, reading the posters, and hearing the campaign slogans assured me that our community is in good hands as we give these student the opportunity to lead. Thank you parents for encouraging your students to run for office and supporting them whether or not they were voted into office.

On Friday, we hosted our October Principals’ Coffee. Thank you to all who joined and for the questions. Here is a link to the recording – we will upload it to our website early next week as well.

Dr. Zuluaga had a fabulous visit to Lemon Road on Wednesday!  Our students, staff, and volunteers welcomed him enthusiastically to lunch, recess, and in the halls.  He was absolutely glowing about our school culture, outdoor usage for lunch & instruction, and mask wearing by all.  Dr. Zuluaga also listened and is trying to help us with our bus challenges.

Thank you for collaborating with us to keep our students healthy and safe. We are so grateful for the support we have had at lunch and for picture day! We continue to need volunteers every day during lunch – both indoors and outside. Please sign up and volunteer with us whenever you can. If you (or a neighbor, acquaintance, or friend) are interested in being paid to support lunch 10:30 – 1:30 daily or work as a monitor, please contact Mr. Birge at mbirge@fcps.edu. We are able to hire someone to support us up to 7 hours each school day.

LRES Polos on Field Trips

Polos

We are bringing back the Lemon Road tradition to wear Lemon Road polos on field trips. Not only does this continue to build camaraderie between our students, but it a safety measure so that it is easy to spot Lemon Road students away from school. As fall field trips are beginning, please be sure to send in your child on a field trip day with their polo on. If you do not have a polo that fits your child, you may contact the PTA to request one. Please include your child’s name, requested size, and classroom teacher’s name. If your child does not have a polo on the day of a field trip, send your child in a navy shirt/polo if possible.

PTA DanceFit Fundraiser

DanceFit

Help the PTA hit their goal of $15,000 to help the school purchase new math and STEAM materials - sponsor your child in this school wide dance party! Lemon Road relies on fundraisers such as these to provide our children with new or improved shared resources and this year the PTA has chosen to support the school with the purchase of new math manipulatives and STEAM games to keep all our Lions engaged in learning. The Dance-a-Thon fundraiser will be hosted during school hours on Oct 27th and your child just needs to get their groove on! Stay tuned for additional registration and fundraising details in the coming weeks.

P2: Being Present and Giving Others My Attention

Being Present

I hope your children enjoyed learning about open-mindedness. Next week, we will discuss the Other People Mindset element of Being Present and Giving Others My Attention. Just like plants need sunlight to grow, our relationships need attention. The research is crystal clear, relationships are the cornerstone of health, happiness, and resilience.  And, if we don’t give our attention to the people we’re building relationships with – whether family members, close friends, or even distant colleagues – we can’t build those relationships.
