Principal's Message

Dear SCMS Community-

There is much to celebrate at SCMS as the calendar rolls into October.  The weather is great, leaves are changing color, pumpkin spice season is upon us, football has started and the MLB post season is right around the corner. Unfortunately, for some students, October may come up for them as a month to “smack a staff member” if they are connecting to the latest and most outrageous Tik Tok Challenge.  Dr. Brabrand sent a message to families yesterday.

It is a hard reality that we have to accept that a student in may be influenced by this terrible trend and carry out the challenge (as shown by the "Devious Licks" challenge in September).  I am confident that our  students know that assaulting anyone is wrong. Any student that engages in the challenge will receive the consequences outlined in the SR&R that are in place for assaulting a staff member.  This can involve a 10 day suspension from school, and referral to the superintendent’s hearing office for possible reassignment from SCMS to another school.  We have interior and exterior cameras all around our school.  Any student who commits an assault will be identified through the footage. Our amazing and hard-working staff should not live in fear of being assaulted.

Thanks for your continued partnership and please email me with your questions, suggestions and concerns.

Sincerely,

Peter Kownacki

Student Withdrawal

When you are withdrawing your student from SCMS, please remember these few things:

  • Let us know as soon as possible instead of us getting a call from the new school
  • Return BOTH the laptop and the CHARGER issued by FCPS at SCMS.  This needs to be done to complete the withdrawal process.

Masks

It has come to our attention that we are handing out a number of masks to students as they enter the building and during the day.  While we don’t mind and will provide students with masks if they need them, for the protection of our students and staff, we cannot continue to do this at the rate that we are doing so. Please strongly encourage your child to keep their masks on them.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
