Respect, Ownership, Communication, and Kindness - ROCK @ Irving

At Irving, we work throughout the year to instill the character traits of ROCK in all we do. Ms. Conley reminded students today, over the morning announcements, that we all need to work together to provide a safe teaching and learning environment. She also issued a challenge to students - instead of following trends that can lead to suspension and/or possibly criminal charges, create a positive trend. What can we as a school do for each other and in the community to lift others up? Capture those moments and post them on social media. We will be working with our students to further develop this idea, capture the good, and use our social media presence to promote these positive trends!

Along those lines, we are hoping you can help us show the ROCK traits in our community. Our neighbors are Communicating with us that there are car drivers not being very Respectful on our surrounding neighborhood streets, by parking illegally while waiting to pick up their child to avoid our Kiss and Ride. Please help us show Kindness to our neighbors and only park in legal spots and do not block neighborhood streets so that trash and recycling trucks can make it through. Please take Ownership of where you are parking and waiting for your child if you are not in our Kiss and Ride as our neighbors have informed us they will be asking the police to enforce the no parking areas. We are sure our families will ROCK this request and be a great example for our students!

Hydration Stations

All water fountains in FCPS are for water bottle filling/refilling only. We HIGHLY encourage your child to bring a water bottle (LABELED with your child’s name on it) to school daily. As many water bottles do look alike, it is very important that the bottle is labeled with the student’s name as we have several bottles left behind on a daily basis.

Board Games, Lego & Cards

Do you have complete board games that your family no longer plays, Lego that isn’t used anymore, and/or some extra card decks around the house? If so, please send them in with your child, who can drop them off outside of the main office. Our students will use them during our daily 15-minute breaks when we have inclement weather.

School Owned Laptops

We have given out a laptop to each student who wanted one and we are now all out of laptops, due to increased enrollment this year. We anticipate getting a few more laptops, however the supply will be limited and will only be used to replace/repair broken laptops.

Please remind your child to bring their CHARGED laptop to school with them every day. We do NOT have any computers available to loan students who forget theirs for the day.

Thank you to all parents/guardians who have already submitted the Digital Resource Consent (DRC) this year! If you have not yet done so, please visit Irving’s DRC page on our website and complete the form today!
