West Potomac HS Weekly News

Happy Homecoming Friday!

It has been a very busy last two weeks.  The effects and realities of children having been out of school for 18 months are surfacing.  The academic struggles and relational struggles are more evident than ever, and it has been very challenging for everyone.  The reality is that most of our 9th graders were last in school in 7th grade and were 12 years old.  They have missed a lot. We are trying to set expectations for all students but need to be more clear and consistent than ever before.  I am sure that you have heard about the Tik Tok challenges that are encouraging kids to engage in activities that are just simply criminal.  Although we had some students remove soap dispensers from bathrooms, most students did not participate in any way with these challenges.  I am confident in our kids that they will continue to be above doing things that would harm others or themselves.  Please reinforce this thinking as you speak with your children this weekend.

We are midway through the first quarter.  This is an excellent time to review with your child their Schoology and SIS grades.  All students have until the end of the quarter to make up work but if they wait until the last week of the quarter, the grades may not go into the gradebook until next quarter.  If you have questions about your child’s grades, please reach out directly to their teachers via email for clarification and support.  We do have late bus days on Monday and Thursday every week.  Students can stay after school to get additional help with their teachers.

I hope to see you during our homecoming festivities.  Have a wonderful weekend.

Ms. Millard
