Floris Families,
Another great week of learning, even with the clouds and rain, there was sunshine in the building. Next week, we are delving into the character trait of teamwork.
Monday is a student holiday (Staff Professional Development Day and Indigenous Peoples' Day). The staff will be participating in a variety of professional development and planning sessions. The office staff will be participating in training as well, so the main office will be closed from 8:45am-11:15am.
Have a wonderful three day weekend. We will see students on Tuesday, October 12.

Positivity Project
Trait for October 11-15
Teamwork
What does Teamwork mean? You work well as a member as a group or team. You are loyal and sacrifice your individual desires for the greater good. Teamwork is the ability and willingness to place overall group success as a higher priority than an individual achievement.
Why does it matter? Our ability to work effectively within group structures is tied directly to the group’s ability to succeed. In schools and workplaces across the world, commitment to teamwork and to the “greater good” helps further learning and achievement for all group members. Maintaining the ideas of “Other People Mindset” and “Positivity In Action” is essential to any successful team environment.
Teamwork quote of the week: “I am a member of a team, and I rely on a team. I defer to it and sacrifice for it, because the team, not the individual, is the ultimate champion.” -Mia Hamm

Fall Book Fair Coming
Our Fall Book Fair is coming October 25-29 to the Floris Elementary School Library. Students will have the opportunity to come with their class to purchases books. This year we are offering an online Fair as well as a new digital payment option called ewallet, a safe and convenient alternative to cash. With ewallet, your child can shop at the in-person Book Fair with their class and use funds that have already been added online by family and friends. It’s free to set up an account and funds are immediately available for use. Ms. Dowling, our librarian, will share more about getting your ewallet account set up closer to the start date. Cash, checks are credit cards are still accepted. It has been two long years since we’ve been able enjoy the fun of this event, and we are so excited!
Harvest Parade
When: October 29, 9:30am-10:30am
Where: Floris Fields
How: Students and parents will be outside, and students will parade by grade level. Please see map below. The blue smiley faces are the students, and the yellow are the parents. The arrows show the parade direction. Kindergarten will start the parade.
Parking: Please be respectful of our community members and their private property when parking. Frying Pan Park has shared that you can park in the main area of the parking lot and walk over that morning. Please do NOT park by or block the carousel.
Student Dismissal Reminders
The end of the day is very busy in a school. In order to support student safety, we need everyone to follow these protocols:
- If you are picking your child(ren) up after 3:30pm, you will need to pick them up from Kiss and Ride. We are unable to have pick-ups from the main office and Door 1 after that time due to buses.
- Any change in dismissal should be noted in the Change of Transportation Form or the Attendance/Early Release Form.
- All changes need to be submitted by 2:00pm. If you have an emergency situation and need to make a change after 2:00pm on a day, please call the main office at 703-561-2900.
- Students will be sent home by their regular dismissal routes if we do not have the information from a parent.
Impact Aid Forms Coming Home Next Week

The pre-filled Student-Parent Survey will come home with students on Friday, October 15.
Please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's homeroom teacher by Friday, November 5.
