Administrators' Avenue

Dear Fairhill Family-

Our hearts are bursting with gratitude for our community this week. Our PTA Fun Run on Friday was just perfect. Students spent an hour outside with friends, laughing, exercising, making memories and enjoying a perfect fall day. These types of traditions are what make our students' experiences at Fairhill so special and while they may look seamless from the outside, they are a big logistical lift for our teachers, PTA volunteers and community members and for that, we say THANK YOU.

In addition to the actual Fun Run, we are extremely grateful for the money that our community members - some with students at Fairhill, and some just great supporters of the school -  have raised to help our students. The over $44,000 will be used in so many positive ways for students. PTA will keep you updated on the spending with its annual budget but we know for sure it will help provide better technology for students and teachers, access to field trips, student and staff morale boosters and opportunities for the community to come together and get to know each other better. Thank you again for your generosity and support of our wonderful school.

Finally, be sure to check out the important dates above. Tomorrow is Bike/Walk to School Day, Friday an Overview of AAP, and next week our Mental Health Town Hall and PTA meeting. We hope you can participate in it all.

With Deep Appreciation,

Ted & Courtney

walk/bike to school

WALK/BIKE TO SCHOOL DAY IS TOMORROW!

Save the date of October 6th for our annual Walk/Bike to School Day!

Walking and biking increase physical activity, they teach people safe             pedestrian and biking skills, they are better for the environment (one less car) and they are a great way to spend time outdoors with family friends!

All students here at Fairhill are encouraged to participate. Every student who walks or bikes to school on October 6th will receive a reward!  Can't walk or bike to school?  No worries - all bus riders and kiss and ride students can earn their reward by walking 8 laps at recess on that day!  Look for Mr. Peevy and Ms. Mendick in front of the school on October 6th.  They will be cheering you on!  If you have any questions, feel free to contact Mr. Peevy at the following email address, pepeevy@fcps.edu.

Advanced Academic Program Information Sessions

Please join us for a Parent Information Session on Friday, October 8th from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. (via Zoom) for an overview of FCPS Advanced Academic Programs and AAP services provided here at Fairhill. All parents are welcome to join to learn more about AAP programs and continuum of services.  We hope to see you then!

Additionally, Mrs. Campbell will be hosting a Parent Information Session on on Friday, October 29th @ 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. (via Zoom) to share information about the screening and identification processes for full-time level IV services for identified students. This session is intended for families of students in grades 2-6.

Links will be sent out prior to each session.

Impact Aid

Each year FCPS is eligible to apply for federal Impact Aid grant funds.  On October 13th you will receive a survey form for each of your children enrolled in FCPS.  Please take a minute to fill out the form for each student in your household and return to your child's teacher the following day.  Fairhill needs 100% participation in this crucial survey for funds.  Thank you for cooperating.  Look for the survey in your child's back pack on October 13th!

Please click here for more information or contact Anne Kane, ackane@fcps.edu.

Town Hall

Join us for our next virtual Town Hall on October 14th from 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.  We will discuss student mental health with our Mental Health Team. We will send a link to join closer to the date.

Library

Library News

The Library has been bustling with browsing and check-outs since the first day of school! After checking out nearly 2,000 books in August, our Fairhill Tigers have checked out over 4,500 in September! It is clear that Fairhill is a READING school! We’d love your help in reminding our Tigers about returning library books in a timely manner. The first round of overdue notices go home today, so feel free to use these as guides to have those talks. Please email Mrs. Howard with any questions: lghoward@fcps.edu Thank you, and happy reading!

Keep your child home from school with any symptoms that are COVID-like.

The most important way you can help as a parent is to keep your child(ren) home if they present with any illness or symptoms that are associated with COVID: runny nose, coughing, headache, sore throat, fatigue, diarrhea, etc. If you keep your child home, and they are feeling better the next day, then they do not need documentation from a medical provider to return. However, if your child comes to school and presents with symptoms, they will be placed in the Care Room and will be sent home. Your child must then be seen by a medical provider in order to return to school and you will be given a form to get completed by the doctor.

Parents, caregivers or guardians, are strongly encouraged to monitor their children for symptoms of infectious illness every day through a home-based symptom screening and students who are sick should not attend in-person instruction. Please consider the questions in the HealthScreeningQuestionnaire for 2021-2022.pdf each morning before sending your child to school. If you answer “YES” to any of the questions, please keep your child home.

Fun run

Fairhill Fun Run Success

Dear Fairhill Families,

We would like to extend a HUGE thank you to our Fairhill families and friends.  This year's Fun Run was an amazing success on many levels.  Not only did we exceed our fundraising goal, but the kids sure did have a great time running and skipping loops on the field (thank you to Mr. Peevy and to our super DJ, Mrs. Korb!).

The best part of this event was seeing our Fairhill community come back together again.  We are so fortunate to have such a generous, enthusiastic and supportive community.

In Gratitude,

Your Fairhill PTA

Update to Return To School Form

With cold and flu season upon us, your child may be sent home from the care room after presenting COVID-like symptoms. We all want our students back in the classroom as soon as they are well. Starting yesterday, Monday, October 4, the Return to School form is no longer needed. We will follow the following guidelines as outlined by the Fairfax County Health Department.

Students may return to school when their symptoms have improved, and they have not had a fever without fever-reducing medications for at least 24 hours, AND have at least one of the following:

Proof of a Negative COVID-19 Test:

  • PCR (test result from lab or physician)
  • Rapid (test result from lab or physician)
  • Home Test (picture of negative home test AND note from parent attesting the result is for the specific child and to the date the test was administered)

OR

Physician’s Note

Note from a healthcare provider following a clinical evaluation stating the cause of symptoms is not COVID-19 and clearing the child to return to school.

Please note, if your child has been identified as a potential close contact or close contact to a  positive case, your child will follow the guidance provided by the health department to be cleared to return to school.

Bus

FCPS Needs School Bus Drivers

New Incentive - New drivers will receive a $3,000 signing bonus - $1,500 after consecutive employment of 90 workdays, and $1,500 will be given after the first 180 working days (paid school days) if the driver receives a satisfactory yearly evaluation and is recommended for continued employment with FCPS Office of Transportation Services.

We hope this helps us to add many new bus drivers to our team!

New Hourly Rate for School Bus Drivers - We are also excited to share that the hourly pay for bus drivers has increased to $22.91!

A $1,000 recruiting bonus is available for any FCPS or Fairfax County employee who recruits a school bus driver.  Certain conditions apply.  Applicants must be able to pass hiring and training standards and must drive for a minimum of 90 school days.  For more information, contact the Applicant Center - Connie Lovejoy at 571-423-3023.
