nyc

Thank you, to our amazing families, Ms. Miciak, and Ms. Rhodes for dedicating time out of their Wednesday to build picnic benches. Our students really enjoyed using them in the beautiful weather today.

After School Activities

We are excited for our after school clubs and activities to fully begin next week. Students will receive updates through ROCK Block about new clubs and activities weekly. We will be sending a separate News You Choose on Monday with all of the details regarding Clubs and Activities. Stay Tuned!

Virginia Growth Assessment

Irving students will participate in the Virginia Growth Assessment (VGA) next week. The Reading VGA will take place on Tuesday, September 28 and the Math VGA will take place on Thursday, September 30. Students in high-school level math courses (Algebra, Geometry, etc) will not be taking a Math VGA. In order to ensure our students are prepared to take the VGA next week, this slide was shared in ROCK Block, as well as in the Schoology Student and Parent Courses. More information about the VGA can be found on the FCPS website. Thank you!

Library News

Approximately 98% of all students have now visited the library with their English classes (we’ll see the other 2% early next week).  It is important that students know what resources they have access to in our library.  Additionally, we want students to have something that they’ve chosen themselves to read during our school-wide “Take Time for Reading” observance, which occurs at the beginning of each 3rd period block.  Theoretically, every other school day, your child will have read for a sustained period during the school day.  Try asking over dinner about what they’ve read and what they’ve learned from reading; hopefully, interesting conversations will result!

We’re happy to report that circulation rates are UP!  Irving students are borrowing and returning library books at a record pace.  We’re happy that students are finding plenty of good books to read.

School Owned Laptops

We have given out a laptop to each student who wanted one and we are now all out of laptops, due to increased enrollment this year. We anticipate getting a few more laptops, however the supply will be limited and will only be used to replace/repair broken laptops.

Please remind your child to bring their CHARGED laptop to school with them every day. We do NOT have any computers available to loan students who forget theirs for the day.

Digital Resource Consent

Thank you to all parents/guardians who have already submitted the Digital Resource Consent (DRC) this year! If you have not yet done so, please visit Irving’s DRC page on our website and complete the form today!

Please DO NOT request a locker if you have already requested a locker for this year.
