Message from the Principal

Dear Wolftrap Families,

We are so excited to be starting our fifth week of school! We were able to share the wonderful news about our new Assistant Principal (see below) on Friday. We will get started (officially!) as an administrative team on October 1st.

Ms. Sharamaine Williams will leave us on September 30th. Since coming to Wolftrap, she has collaborated with staff to provide a seamless transition during the return to school. Please join me in thanking her, if you are able to send an email or greet her in person at school.

Upcoming VGA (see below) and iReady testing will give us data for teachers to further tailor instruction for the success of each student. Grade level teams are meeting to plan units of study, and our counselors and mental health team are also working in consultation with grade levels to support student social and emotional learning.

Please join us on Friday, September 24th for Wolftrap Under the Stars. The PTA has planned a wonderful event, and please note that masks are strongly encouraged, as we will have a group gathering outside. We will require masks for activities where students are working closely together at tables or in close proximity at games. I will look forward to seeing you there!

Best,

Dr. Maggie Grove

New Assistant Principal

It gives me great pleasure to announce that Ms. Lisa O’Donovan, current Assistant Principal at Timber Lane Elementary School, has been selected as the new Assistant Principal of Wolftrap Elementary School. Ms. O’Donovan will transition to Wolftrap Elementary, effective October 1st.  We are very excited for this administrative partnership and a great beginning.

Ms. O’Donovan has over twenty years in education with professional experience in a variety of roles. Most recently, she has been the Assistant Principal at Timber Lane Elementary, where she has worked closely with the administrative team to plan for success of students. She has developed and led professional development for teachers in Responsive Classroom and Responsive Instruction, which has taught teachers how to develop foundations for positive classroom relationships. She has worked closely in her role with families to utilize a team approach to discipline in alignment with the Student Rights and Responsibilities document. She has supported instruction by writing grants to organize collaborative learning visits for teachers to further build a collaborative culture in the school. Ms. O’ Donovan has served as the site administrator for the Summer Services program and taught at Crossfield, Sleepy Hollow, Rose Hill and Sangster Elementary Schools.

Ms. O’Donovan received her Bachelor of Arts in Education from Florida Atlantic University, Master of Science Degree in Reading K-12 from Nova Southeastern University and has received her Education Leadership Endorsement from the University of Virginia. We are thrilled that Ms. O’Donovan will bring her professional expertise to the Wolftrap community, and we look forward to working as an administrative team for the success of students and teachers.

Virginia Growth Assessment (VGA)

Parents, please be aware that the following grade levels will be taking a Virginia Growth Assessment test over the next two weeks. Please make sure that you use the health screening tool before sending students to school, but particularly as we are thinking about students who will be testing. Additionally, please help students have a good breakfast and a good rest the night before. Students who miss testing will have an opportunity for make up the week of October 4th. If you have any questions about testing, please contact your child’s teacher.

The weather forecast looks amazing for a fun Friday night at Wolftrap Under the Stars! We hope you will all join us for a fun back-to-school celebration. Masks are strongly recommended at this event, and we thank you in advance for helping us keep our kids safe, our schools open, and helping our PTA be able to continue hosting events such as these for our school community.

As you read through this week's Connection, we hope you see how many wonderful events, programs, and opportunities are planned for our students. It is such a joy to return so many programs to the school! This Connection offers so many opportunities to get involved - from an upcoming room parent interest meeting to outdoor lunch volunteers. We thank our parent community for volunteering with us to make all this happen.

We also wanted to take a moment to thank all the parents who joined the PTA and those who made donations to our Friends of Wolftrap program. Your support goes such a long way in what we can do for our school, students, and teachers, and we are grateful for your decision to join us in our efforts. It is never to late to join the PTA and help support our efforts this year.
