Social Work Spotlight
By Kristen Licciardo, MSW, School Social Worker
What is Coping? We hear about coping skills or strategies all the time but what does it really mean and what might work for you?
Coping means to invest one's own conscious effort, to solve personal and interpersonal problems, in order to try to master, minimize or tolerate stress and conflict. The psychological coping mechanisms are commonly termed coping strategies or coping skills. Wikipedia
There are many different types of coping skills and everyone must find what works for them and their personal situation. Here is a great graphic with different types of coping strategies and ideas. (Thrive Treatment Center https://thrivetreatment.com/coping-skills-in-recovery/).
