We will begin our new bell schedule this Monday, September 20th.  We are hopeful that this will take out some of the stress in getting from one class to the next for students and staff.

Student Monitor Position Available

West Potomac HS, and schools across the school division, have the opportunity to hire hourly positions to help with assorted functions.  If you, or someone you know, is looking for hourly work please share this. 

Student Monitor

Description:   Provides supervision of students throughout the school day to include, but not limited to, the classroom, hallways, lunch, recess, specials and at arrival/dismissal; helps maintain order and discipline and assists in managing the behavior of students; operates technology; performs administrative and non-instructional duties; ensures all layered prevention/safety protocols and procedures are implemented and followed; works with individual and small groups of students.   

Qualifications:  Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. Must be comfortable managing student behaviors in large and small groups, ensuring all layered prevention/safety protocols and procedures are implemented and followed; and has general familiarity/skills with basic office technology in support of teachers, students, and the classroom.

Hourly Band 4:     $15.73/hr 

At West Potomac we have a few options for the Student Monitor position(s):

  • Full day position from 7:30- 4:00 (8-hour day plus 30-minute break)
  • Part-time option 1:  One shift from 10:30AM – 2:00PM 
  • Part-time option 2:  One shift from 10:30AM – 4:00PM
  • Part-time option 3:  Two days a week (Monday and Thursday) from 2:00 – 5:30PM.  This role will primarily support supervision at dismissal and after school including late buses.

WPHS National Honor Society Meeting:  Interested in applying to the WP National Honor Society? NHS is open to current juniors and seniors that have a minimum 3.5 GPA.  Please make arrangements to attend an interest meeting on Monday, Sept 20th from 3-3:15 in room 128.  The application requirements and process will be discussed.  If you can’t make the meeting, or have questions, please email Jamie Carfang at jacarfang@fcps.edu or Sarah Newton at sabuchkowski@fcps.edu     

WPHS HOMECOMING WEEK - SAVE THE DATE: Sept 27-Oct 2nd:

Moe’s Restaurant Night – September 30, 5:00-9:00 PM

Delicious Food, Clean Kitchen - all for a great cause.  Order up your favorite meal kit or meal and Moe’s will donate a portion of all proceeds back to WP PTSA to help fund student and teacher supported programs.  Meal kits need to be pre-ordered by 9/29 at 4:00 PM.  https://form.jotform.com/212553115425144. COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER:

Fall is college admissions season!  For seniors who are planning on attending college after graduation, we have over 60 college and university representatives registered to visit YOU in our Career Center!  Check Naviance for the most up-to-date list of colleges coming to visit WPHS. Seniors and juniors are eligible to attend visits and must register for each visit they will attend.

***Students must ask teachers to be excused 2 days in advance of the visit as well as check in with their teacher for attendance before coming to the Career Center.  Also bring your laptop to all visits.

If you are unable to attend when the college representative visits or if the school you are interested in has not registered to visit WPHS, registration is open for the virtual PCACAC Fall College Fair.  You will have the opportunity to connect with colleges and universities across the U.S. and abroad.  Choose who you’d like to network with when registering for each session.

Seniors, do you have questions as you are completing your Common Application?  Join the Common App team for a live Q &A. This session is for FCPS students at Bryant, Edison, Hayfield, Lewis, Mount Vernon, South County, and West Potomac high schools. Come with your questions!
