At Carson Middle School
Rachel Carson students may participate in a wide variety of wonderful after school activities that range from social, athletic and academic groups which include award winning teams such as Debate, Model UN and TSA. Some of our other clubs this year, include World Awareness for Change, Emerging Technologies, Dungeons & Dragons, Creative Yarn Club, Appian Board Game Club, Futsal, Spectrum of Carson LGBTQ+ & Allies, and many others.
The school provides high-quality activities where students can feel safe, improve academic performance, along with social, emotional, and physical well-being, while reducing the potential for risk-taking behaviors. The afterschool setting is a structured environment which is an extension of our school day. All FCPS and school rules still apply during the afterschool program. Students who do not follow program rules and procedures, may lose the privilege of participating in the program. All students who are participating in the activities must be with a staff member for one of our clubs or academics. The after school program is not a time or place to hang-out without structured activities.
Afterschool programs and Late buses are provided on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. If a student stays after on Tuesdays or Fridays, they must be picked up by their parent/guardian. The after school program runs from 2:23-4:28 PM and is broken into two blocks, A Block (2:23-3:23) and B Block (3:28-4:28). Students may leave after a block if they are being picked up. Late buses only arrive after B Block. Parents do not sign students up for afterschool programs, it is the student's responsibility to sign up for individual clubs. Students will sign up the day of, during their lunch period for clubs that have weekly sign ups. You may check the RCMS website for individual club sign up information.

Afterschool Transportation
Due to the county wide shortage of bus drivers, the afterschool bus pick up, departure and drop off times will be impacted. In previous years, late buses departed Carson immediately after programs ended. The late bus arrival times provided from transportation are 4:50-5:00pm, school departure time is 5:00-5:10pm and student drop off between 5:20-5:42pm. These times are just approximate, based on bus arrival times to Carson being as expected. Drop off times may vary if buses arrive at Carson after 5:00PM. Please check your SIS ParentVue account for their designated late bus route number which is usually different from their regular route in the morning. If you are able to pick up your student at Kiss & Ride, it is highly encouraged that you do so.
You may also track your child's late bus in Here Comes the Bus (HCtB) app or FCPS School Bus Delays website for potential delays. Route information for your child is always available and current in your SIS ParentVue account.
