Dear Poplar Tree Families,

We hope everyone had a good week! We were excited to see many of our 4th, 5th, and 6th graders begin band and strings this week. We also wanted to make you aware of a change in COVID notification. If we have a positive COVID case at Poplar Tree, we will notify the community on Fridays via email through the eNotify system. We will continue to contact families directly if their child has been identified as a potential close contact to a positive COVID case.

Just a reminder that Wednesday is our virtual Back to School Night. Additional information is below. Next week we also begin the Virginia Growth Assessment (VGA) in Grades 3-6.

Have a wonderful weekend!

virtual BTSN

Virtual Back to School Night

Wednesday, September 22

Each family will receive or has already received an email from their child's homeroom teacher with information about our virtual Back to School Night (BTSN) on Wednesday, September 22. We have decided to try a different format this school year. Each teacher will share their BTSN presentation prior to Wednesday. We are asking families to review the presentation and then submit any questions by Monday night. During BTSN, the teachers will be answering the questions that were submitted.

Please remember that only 2021-22 PTA members will have access to the family directory after Oct 15th!

Outdoor Movie Night

Join us for our first Outdoor Movie Night! Raya and the Last Dragon is coming to Poplar Tree! Grab your blanket or chair and enjoy a free showing and popcorn!

Reserve your spot by September 28th! Space is limited and advanced registration is required.

Make it an easy dinner night and pre-order pizza and drinks. Pick-up starts at 6:45PM.

We are in need of several volunteers to help at the event.  Please consider signing up. This is a great opportunity for teens needing service hours!

Please Join the PTA!

Your PTA membership renewal is critical to help us sponsor programs that fall outside of the school budget, such as art, music, library, and technology programs. Renew by October 31st to maintain your access to the family directory! Please join our PoplarTree PTA team to help us achieve more together this school year. family life education

Family Life Education Program

Students in grades K-6 have special lessons though out the year within the Family Life Education Program.  In grades 4, 5, and 6 also include lessons in Human Growth and Development.  Parents have the option to opt students out of all or some of these lessons.  For more information about the program and to access the opt out forms please click here. To view lessons and materials please visit the PTES Parent Schoology Course.

On Back to School Night (Wednesday, September 22nd), we will hold a brief virtual overview of the program and answer questions that you may have from 6:30-7 p.m.  The session will also be recorded and posted on our webpage in late September.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact Carol Larsen, Assistant Principal (calarsen@fcps.edu ).

parental consent

At Poplar Tree, we use a variety of digital tools to support meaningful student learning. Some of these tools require parental consent before they can be used.

❤️85% of our school population has already provided consent - THANK YOU! We really want  consent from 100% of our Poplar Tree families! 💻

You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here: https://poplartreees.fcps.edu/adopteddigitalresources. After reviewing these resources, please complete 🔗 this form 🔗 to indicate whether or not your student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. Your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission, so the sooner we can get the permission the better!

Please reach out to our School Based Technology Specialist, Leslie Leisey (lfleisey@fcps.edu) or your child's teacher you have questions or concerns. THANK YOU!!!
