Floris Families,

Another busy and amazing week at Floris. Band and strings classes have started, students are beginning to really get into the routines, and our teachers are analyzing the beginning of the year assessments to determine the next best steps for our students. It is so wonderful to see the learning in our outdoor spaces and in our classrooms each day.

We hope families have seen the notifications that FCPS has changed the format for informing families of positive COVID cases in a school. Each school will share an update on Friday or the last day of school for that week, if there were any reported COVID-19 positive cases in the school that week. We will contact families that are directly impacted as soon as possible. If you don't hear from us directly, your child is not considered a close contact of someone that was diagnosed with COVID.

Arrival and dismissal continue to improve, and we appreciate everyone's patience through these first four weeks of school.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Holly Walker, Principal, hjwalker@fcps.edu

Amanda Dorr, Assistant Principal, acdorr@fcps.edu

getting schooled

Our new Learning Management System (LMS) is Schoology!
So... what does that mean?

  1. Schoology will be our hub for student, parent, and staff information!
  2. Schoology will be the delivery method for any digital instruction (replacing Google Classroom).
  3. Parents can view all student courses in Schoology to keep up with digital content.
👉👉Please note that teachers are using lots of screen-free resources, so logging into Schoology will only show you the digital footprint of their courses.
  4. We will all be learning this new system together!

Please visit the Schoology Page on our Floris ES webpage for more information, including a video and tour of our Floris Schoology courses.

How Do I Access Schoology?

1. The login page for Schoology is lms.fcps.edu

2. Your login credentials are the same as your SIS ParentVue ones.

👉  Need a SIS login?  Request one here!

Happy exploring!

SR&R

Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R)

FCPS’ updated Student Rights & Responsibility booklet is now available online and in the ParentVue section of the Student Information System (SIS). The SR&R booklet explains expectations for student behavior, and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment.

Each year, we ask parents to review, sign, and return the SR&R to their child’s school. In ParentVue, you may now download and digitally sign the SR&R. Every parent/guardian with a ParentVUE account will see the SR&R upon login to ParentVUE until the SR&R acknowledgement has been completed.

Once you log on, you will see the Parent Acknowledgement. Please read the acknowledgement and sign your name. Your name in the digital signature box must match the parent/guardian’s first and last name in SIS exactly before the signature will be accepted.

Please take a moment to log into ParentVue in your child’s SIS account to access the SR&R. Signatures are due by October 29, 2021.

Please contact us if you are having difficulty accessing the booklet.

Real Fun DC- Nominate a Teacher

Tommy + Kelly's Teacher Tour is back, presented by the Virginia Lottery!  We can't wait to visit teachers across Northern Virginia!  This year, we're looking for that amazing educator in your life who is going above and beyond getting their students ready for a new school year.

Tell us about your favorite teacher at Real.Fun.DC

Now's your chance to nominate your favorite Virginia public school teacher. Kelly Collis and Tommy McFLY will make a personal visit to their school (using safe social distance and mask protocols) with an awesome delivery of gratitude from the Virginia Lottery. Of course, there will be Georgetown Cupcakes, Virginia Lottery Scratchers, cool swag, and other unique surprises.  Staff from each teacher's school will even get special prizes from the Virginia Lottery!

We are excited to visit some amazing teachers, and we will work with the winners when the time and conditions are right for your school community.

We’re hitting the road again this year all over Northern Virginia to bring some love and gratitude to teachers going the extra mile ... thanks to the Virginia Lottery!
