Greetings, Graham Road Families!
It’s been an exciting start to the school year. We are beyond thrilled to have all of our students back for five days of instruction after the disruptions and divisions of last year. The planning and preparation of teachers has definitely paid off. Students are building relationships, learning and having fun in ways we’ve all missed over the last year and a half.
In addition to learning, we’re also very proud of our health and safety measures at Graham Road. We understand as the number of COVID-19 cases increases in Fairfax County and the entire nation, parents may have questions about how we’re keeping kids safe at school. Please see below!
Universal Masking and Handwashing
All students and staff are required to wear double-layer face masks in school buildings and on FCPS school buses. Students and staff are also required to wash hands frequently and especially before/after eating, before/after using the restroom, before/after using shared materials or playground equipment and any time anyone touches their face.
Lunch
Students eat lunch in the cafeteria in assigned desk seats. Each student desk and seat is spaced 6 feet from others so students can eat and drink safely. You can watch my Back to School Night video for a sneak peek into our cafeteria.
Classrooms
Teachers are dedicated to keeping 3 feet of distance between students throughout the day. When students temporarily remove masks to eat or drink, they will move to six feet of distance. Students will also be distanced at six feet in the gym for PE class.
Health Monitoring
All staff and students should monitor health every single day. If students or staff have any of the Covid-like symptoms, they should stay home and contact a physician. If a student comes to school and has any of the Covid-like symptoms, he/she will be sent to the care room, parents will be called for immediate pick up and will not be permitted to return to school until cleared by a doctor.
Have additional questions? Please contact the school to set up a call or meeting with me. Thank you for all of your patience, flexibility and partnership!
Lauren Badini
Principal
Please join us for our first PTA meeting of the year! This meeting will be outdoors on the blacktop near the playground or under our outdoor tent if there is inclement weather. Our new family liaison, Marita Collins will be in attendance interpreting for our families who speak Spanish. After the meeting, PTA will provide ice cream for families to enjoy outside as well.
Couldn’t join us for virtual Back to School Night? Check out recordings on our website here: https://grahamroades.fcps.edu/back-to-school-night
The Students Rights & Responsibilities handbook will be transitioning to a digital format. All students will have the handbook on their laptop and parents can access the SR&R here.
Starting this school year, parents/guardians with a ParentVUE account can download and digitally sign the SR&R in ParentVUE. Every parent/guardian with a ParentVUE account, regardless of relationship to the student, will see the SR&R upon login to PVUE until the SR&R acknowledgement has been completed.
The SR&R Parent / Guardian Signature Sheet is due October 29, 2021.
