Gator Bytes: News and General Information for Kings Glen ES

Calendar Reminder - Yom Kippur

Yom Kippur, the holiest day in Judaism. To mark this day, Thursday, September 16 is noted as a religious/cultural observance date on the FCPS calendar. We will also not schedule events on the evening of September 15.

The FCPS 2021-22 School Year Calendar ensures students do not have to make choices between honoring their cultural or religious beliefs and missing tests or school activities. Tests, quizzes, field trips, graduation, homecoming, or FCPS-scheduled athletic events cannot be scheduled on any religious and cultural observances. Tests and quizzes will be given prior to any of the 15 days so that students will not be expected to study on these days.

Area Chorus

Area Chorus at Lake Braddock SS

The Lake Braddock choral department is sending out an invitation to all of our Kings Glen 5th and 6th grade students to join Area Chorus. This is a completely optional event for students who enjoy singing. Please see the flyer in your child’s Tuesday Folder for more information.

For more information, please contact Kathie d’Alelio or Kellie Dragity, Music teachers at Kings Glen ES.

Screen for Illness Every Day, Stay Home When Sick

As a reminder, any student who is ill or has COVID-like symptoms should remain at home. The daily health screening questionnaire and all translated versions can be found on our Health and Safety Guidance webpage. Daily completion of the health screening is done on an honor basis and does not need to be sent to the school.

FCPS Cares

The FCPS Cares Program is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story so we can acknowledge our Kings Glen staff members.

PTA Ice Cream Social/Community Resource Fair

Friday, September 17 at 6 p.m.

Please join us for the PTA's annual Ice Cream Social and Community Resource Fair on Friday, September 17 at 6:00 p.mat Kings Glen!  Enjoy an individually-wrapped treat and meet with some of our local after school and community vendors while the kids play on the playground.  The PTA will also be accepting donations for Echo and Food for Others at this event.

Please note that while outside, anyone not fully vaccinated is recommended, but not required, to wear a mask.  In addition, when outside, face masks are recommended in crowded settings.

2021 Spirit Wear Sale

The 2021 Spirit Wear sale is happening now!  Visit the PTA's website for a link to the PTA's 2021 spirit wear store, as well as information on the offerings and delivery options. The sale will be happening throughout September. Send an email to kpkgptaspirit@gmail.com with any questions.

The Boosterthon Fun Run is here!

The PTA's annual Boosterthon Fun Run on officially kicks off this week on Wednesday, September 15! Register your child today and share with your family and friends to help spread the word!  The PTA has a 65% student registration goal -- once each school has 65% students registered, they will receive very special Ultimate Reward.

Over the next two weeks, students will view and learn character lessons from the crew of this year's theme, Sport City Worldwide, during their daily news shows. You will also hear about nightly challenges and a special weekend challenge.

Our goal is to raise $32,000 for water bottle filling stations, classroom and technology enhancements, as well as for other school and PTA projects. Everything leads up to the Fun Run on Friday, September 24 during school hours. Details for the day are still being finalized to meet the ever-changing safety precautions.  A couple of safety precautions that Boosterthon and the PTA are taking for this year's Fun Run:

  • Each student will automatically be marked at 34 laps.
  • Students will need to bring their own water bottles as the normal water stations will not be set up.
  • To keep the crowds low, parents will not be able to attend the Fun Run in person this year.

Please contact Sarah Maccubbin-Tremper, VP of Fundraising with any questions.
