THIS WEEK AT MADISON

WEEK OF 9/7/21

IMPORTANT INFO & EVENTS

Digital Resources Consent

At Madison HS, we will use a variety of FCPS-approved digital tools to support in-person learning this year!  We need you to give consent for your child to use them as soon as possible so we can start using them for learning right away!  Preview the list and provide your consent here

Reminder: Leaving Campus During the Day

We are asking parents to remind their children that students are not permitted to leave school grounds during lunch, or any other time of the day, for safety and accountability reasons.  Per FCPS Regulation 2234.11, students are not permitted to leave school grounds during regular school hours for any reason.   If your child needs to leave school for an appointment, please make sure you provide a note to the attendance office.  For more information on early checkout, please see the JMHS website for more information on attendance procedures.

New process to speed up the return of fully-vaccinated students to the classroom

Starting September 7, fully vaccinated, asymptomatic students will be able to return to in-person learning and activities following a simple process that will reduce the time needed to process potential close contacts. Information on the new process was sent directly to parents on Thursday, September, 2, 2021.  Specifics will be sent to families whose student has been identified as a close contact.

Understanding COVID Health Terms

Pausing, quarantining, and contact tracing are tools we use to keep schools safe when a positive COVID-19 case is reported.  Click here for more information.

Attendance: Period CUTS

A “CUT” code will be entered into SIS by an administrator if a child checks into a class, leaves and does not return; this includes not coming back after lunch.  On the first and second offense, students will conference with our Systems of Support Advisor. On the third offense, students will be referred to their assistant principal.

This Week In Advisory

Students participated in a Lockdown Drill on Tuesday. Additionally students will participate in activities that promote student-teacher and student-student connections in the classroom.

LOOKING AHEAD

Pass/Fail Deadline: Wednesday, September 22

With parental/guardian approval, middle and high school students are given the option of taking one high school elective credit per school year on a pass-fail basis.  For high school students, this may be applied to required health and physical education credits, world language credits, and to credits other than those required for English, social studies, mathematics, and laboratory science

Any student wishing to take a course as pass-fail shall indicate this by completing a Request for Pass-Fail Status form requiring parent and/or guardian approval.

Expunge Deadline: Friday, October 29

In accordance with the Virginia Board of Education regulations, FCPS Regulation 2408 permits parents of students who take a high school credit-bearing course in middle school to request that the grade be omitted from the student's high school transcript and the student not earn high school credit for the course.  Parents must make this request in writing no later than the end of the first nine weeks of the school year following completion of the course.  The form to make this request, along with the process for making the request, is available at: Request to Expunge High School Courses Taken in Middle School or through your student’s school counselor.  Parents are strongly advised to discuss this decision with their student’s school counselor and the impact of expunging a course on desired high school diploma type and standard and verified credit requirements.
