The McLean PTSA is an all-volunteer organization. Whether you have the time and energy to chair a committee or prefer to volunteer an hour at an occasional event, YOUR PTSA NEEDS YOU and appreciates all that you do!

President-Elect
Serve the Highlander community before stepping into the role of President. Share your valuable insights and contributions and shape the following year, while allowing time to learn on the job.
All Night Grad Party (ANGP) Committee Chairs for 2022
Lead planning and delivery of our All Night Grad Party for the Senior Class of 2022. The plan is to begin early to make it a memorable gathering for graduating students. Current-year committee chairs are available to provide a smooth transition along with providing helpful documentation.
eNews Team Committee: Responsible for publishing weekly PTSA e-newsletter. The role of the weekly PTSA eNews is to enhance engagement with and provide relevant information to our McLean HS parent/teacher-staff/student community.
eNews Team volunteers rotate responsibilities on a monthly basis.
Committee Chair: Organize content for the week’s newsletter into the editorial content template. Maintain monthly schedule of who is the assigned publisher and proof-reader,
Proofreader: Review draft of e-newsletter to test links, catch typos, and verify consistency with format standard.
Publisher: Use Gov.Delivery tool to enter prepared content, images, links and .pdfs provided. Follow committee developed format standards. Send a test version to the proofreader and incorporate changes. Schedule final version in the tool for publishing at noon on Wednesdays.

Celebrate McLean
Bringing the Community Together on Friday, September 17th
Join us with your family and friends! This is an event for all of our elementary, middle and high school students and families to come together for an evening of fun and entertainment. From 4:30-6:30pm at the Football Practice Field (behind the baseball field) we will have carnival style activities, food trucks and booths from our High School Clubs and local Elementary schools. Stay a while after Celebrate McLean for the McLean High Varsity Football game at 7pm, and cheer on our football players, cheerleaders, dancers and award winning band! Click here for details.

Mock SAT and ACT Tests
EC Tutoring is offering mock SAT and ACT tests in September. These tests are available to students at area schools for $20.
*** Please remember to indicate your status as an MHS student on the registration form to ensure that the PTSA receives credit; the fees support our programs.

Spring Hill ES Back-to-School Block Party
Spring Hill Elementary School (8201 Lewinsville Rd) is hosting its 6th annual Back-to-School Block Party on Friday, September 17 from 5:30-7:30pm. This community building event brings together Spring Hill families for a night of food, music and games. High school and adult volunteers are needed to help set up tables and chairs, serve food, and clean up.
Volunteer hours: Beginning at 4:00 PM for 2 hour shifts until 8:00 PM. Up to 5 volunteers per shift.

Lemon Road ES Fall Festival
Lemon Road Elementary School (7230 Idylwood Road) will be holding its Fall Festival on Saturday, September 25 from 10:00pm- 3:00pm.
The event is the PTA's annual fall fundraiser and its success hinges on having enough volunteers to help bring the carnival atmosphere to life. This is a great opportunity for you to fulfill service hour requirements.
Middle and high school volunteers will supplement adult volunteers and help run carnival games, face painting, as well as help with setup and clean up.

Art Competition: The Theme for the 2021-22 School Year is I Will Change The World by......
For over 50 years, National PTA’s Reflections program has helped students explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life. Students can create theme-based artwork in dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, or visual arts.
Submission guidelines and entry forms can be found on Directions and Rules for Submission categories. All submissions will be online - submissions are due by Friday October 8. Winners will be notified via email by October 22, and entries can then be left in the MHS front office for pick-up the week of October 25.

2021 Congressional App Challenge
The 2021 Congressional App Challenge has begun! This challenge runs from June 24 to November 1 and offers middle school and high school students interested in coding a chance to enhance their skills and interests in computer science and STEM. Local judges will evaluate the student submissions and choose a winning individual or team. For additional details, you can visit www.CongressionalAppChallenge.us.

Back to School Anxiety
The return to school is often accompanied by a myriad of emotions…excitement, nervousness, anxiety, you name it! And certainly, this year is no exception.
Recognizing that we all may be a little more anxious than usual, the Safe Community Coalition (SCC) is proud to offer an online panel discussion with local mental health professionals Jennifer Weaver, Mimi Weisberg, and Robyne Davis on Tuesday, September 21st at 7:00 p.m. The panel will discuss Back to School Anxiety and offer concrete ways you can help get the school year off to a great start. Building Foundations & Futures for Military Special Education

This is a virtual conference for service members and their families who have students with disabilities and the professionals who serve them. There will be two live sessions as well as a variety of pre-recorded presentations available for viewing at your convenience. College Bootcamp

This virtual College Boot Camp is for students with an IEP that are graduating in 2022 and plan to attend college. Career and Transition Services staff will work with students on starting the application process. Agenda includes:
