Screening Reminder
Please remember to check the daily health screening questionnaire EVERY day before sending your student to school. If students are found to have symptoms for the Care Room, we are required to send them home and they must have the Return to School form filled out before they can come back into the building. You can avoid this process by checking students carefully, using the screening form, before school. Please review the information provided by FCPS below. Our clinic staff is working very hard to keep students safe, but it is a team effort. I’m also including a recent link from the health department with an updated FAQ page. Thank you!
Student Screening for Illness Prior to Leaving Home
One of the most important prevention strategies guidelines is screening students daily for any signs of illness prior to leaving home for school. Any student who is ill or presents with COVID-like symptoms is to remain at home. The daily health screening questionnaire and all translated version can be found on our Health and Safety Guidance document at https://www.fcps.edu/return-school/health-and-safety-guidance-document. This document provides the details of the policies and protocols related to COVID-19, and it is continually updated to align with public health guidance as it evolves during the school year. Daily completion of the health screening is done on an honor basis and does not need to be sent to the school.
COVID-19 may cause different symptoms in different students. Listed below are possible symptoms for COVID-like illness as according to the VDH:
- Feeling feverish and/or having chills (if thermometer reads a temperature/fever of 100.4F or greater)
- A new cough, not due to another health condition
- Fatigue (more tired than usual)
- Nasal congestion or runny nose
- Headache
- A new sore throat, not due to another health condition
- New chills, not due to another health condition
- New muscle pain, not due to another health condition or caused by a specific activity such as physical exercise
- New loss of taste, smell, or poor appetite or poor feeding
- Abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting
Returning to School After Illness
Students who are sent home from school will be required to present one of the following forms of documentation when returning to school:
- A negative COVID test
- A completed Return to School Form provided by the school
- A clearance letter provided by the Fairfax County Health Department stating that a student has completed quarantine or isolation following exposure to COVID-19 or having had COVID-19
Thank you for partnering with FCPS to Stop the Spread of COVID-19 in our schools. For more information, visit https://www.fcps.edu/blog/stop-spread.
Upcoming Student Testing
Students will have opportunities to participate in upcoming assessments to provide data for instruction and for other areas, as well. Please look for a letter coming home this week about the SEL (social emotion screener) assessment. Please see the link here to read about the universal screener that has been administered to students for several years now. You may read about the NEW Virginia Growth Assessment here. If you have any questions about upcoming testing, please contact Dr. Grove.
