A message from Principal, Amy Miller:
Dear Kilmer Families,
We were looking forward to connecting with you at Back-to-School Night this week and are sorry we had to postpone due to the FCPS weather cancellation. We will be rescheduling this event. There is quite a bit of coordination that goes into identifying the Back-to-School Night date and we will publish it as soon as our new date is finalized.
Some highlights from this week are, our science students had an opportunity to take their learning outside as they studied watersheds. In Health and PE, students were learning about and playing volleyball with a giant beach ball. Our Introduction to Foreign Language students took their learning outside as they practiced their Latin using sidewalk chalk.
We hope everyone enjoys the long weekend!
Sincerely,
Amy Miller, Principal
Health and PE
Subject: Families, We Need Your Consent for Select Digital Resources
At Kilmer Middle School, our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here: https://kilmerms.fcps.edu/adopteddigitalresources. Additionally, you can find more information about approved digital resources in FCPS here: https://www.fcps.edu/resources/technology/digital-resources.
Included on this page is also a link to a form where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval and why we must request your consent before using certain tools. We encourage you to complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission. Please reach out to your students’ teacher, counselor or admin if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources we’ve chosen to use this year.
Gradebooks
Gradebooks will be available for viewing in SIS ParentVue and StudentVue beginning September, 7th at 6am

As a reminder, please have your student bring their laptop to school every day.
Student Absence or Late Arrival
Complete our Attendance Form or call 703-846-8888 by 7:30 am to notify the Front Office if your student will be absent or arriving late to school. This form is designed for unplanned absences, late arrivals, and short-term prearranged absences only. For prearranged absences, advanced notice and school approval is required. Please complete the Request for Prearranged Absence Form and submit it to the Front Office or your student’s School Counselor.
Volunteer and Fulfill Service Hour Requirements
Lemon Road Elementary School (7230 Idylwood Road) will be holding its Fall Festival on Saturday, Sept. 25 from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM. The event is the PTA's annual fall fundraiser and its success hinges on having enough volunteers to help bring the carnival atmosphere to life. This is a great opportunity for you to fulfill service hour requirements. Middle and high school volunteers will supplement adult volunteers and help run carnival games, face painting, as well as help with set up and clean up. You can view the SignUp Genius here and all slots for middle and high school volunteers are clearly marked. If you have any questions reach out to the Lemon Road PTA at lemonroadpta@gmail.com. The onsite coordinator will be in touch with you regarding signing service hour forms if you choose to volunteer.
