Social Work Spotlight

Christyn Levy

I am Christyn Levy and this is my eighth year working as a school social worker at Robinson.  I attended the University of Tampa and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and completed my Master’s Degree in Social Work at the University of Washington.  In 2019 I became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Virginia.  Prior to working in the schools I worked with children and young adults in emergency shelter programs and short term residential programs for homeless and foster care teens and young adults, domestic violence programs, and other emergency service programs.  Our family relocated from Seattle to Northern Virginia in 2010 to be closer to family.  My husband, two elementary age kids, one cute puppy, and a fluffy cat like to stay busy going on road trips, playing board games, and being outside.  I look forward to being a resource to the Robinson community.

Volunteering Opportunity for Students

GIVE Tutoring is a student run non-profit organization that provides free tutoring for elementary school students. Students are tutored by high school volunteers on the weekends during the school year. We have 20+ locations in the Northern Virginia area, including one at Burke Centre Library. Last year we had conducted tutoring virtually and now are proceeding with in-person sessions with COVID-19 precautions in place which includes: requiring masks regardless of vaccination status, socially distancing, sanitization, and monitoring of all students and tutors in addition to any future recommendations from the CDC. We would like to extend the opportunity to students at Robinson Secondary School as a way of giving back to the community and earning volunteer hours as well. Students may apply to tutor at this link and more information is available on our website (giveyouth.org) in addition to the attached flyer. Currently a date has not been yet finalized for the fall session however, any finalized information will be sent out to tutors and students.
