Westgate Weekly News

Dear Westgate Families,

As we enter into our second week back at Westgate, we want to thank you for the overwhelming support and grace we have received as we have navigated through any first week hiccups.  We have learned a lot with everyone being back in the building, and are excited for another week of growing with our students.

In general, our arrival and dismissal procedures went swimmingly well as we rounded out the week, and I hope, will only continue to improve.  We still realize that some bus routes are still delayed so we highly encourage you to sign up for the Here Comes the Bus App for real time bus updates.

Please continue to use caution when navigating the Kiss & Ride line.  As a reminder, students only exit on the sidewalk side of the vehicle, parents/guardians need to stay in their vehicle at all times, and you are not allowed to pass the car ahead of you unless instructed to do so by a Westgate Staff member.  These are critical safety measures we are putting in place to ensure that students, staff, and families all remain safe.

Tomorrow, August 31, is Westgate's Virtual Back to School Night (BTSN).    You should receive information regarding BTSN from your child's classroom teacher no later than today.  Please note that this is an all virtual event via Zoom and will have two sessions; one at 6:00 p.m. and another at 6:45 p.m.  We hope you make this a priority to attend and look forward to seeing many parents/guardians online tomorrow.

Here's to another exciting week at Westgate and thank you for your continued support and patience as we begin the school year.

All my best,

Hallie Demetriades

Principal

Mitigation Strategies in place at Westgate

As health and safety remains a top priority at Westgate, we wanted to share the current mitigation strategies we have in place for both learning spaces and in the cafeteria.  We are doing everything in our power to ensure students are as safe as possible as we transition all students back to the building.

As a reminder, please do NOT send your child to school if they are experiencing any COVID-19 like symptoms.  Those includes fever, congestion, sore throat, runny nose, fatigue, stomachache, nausea/vomiting/diarrhea, or headaches.  If a child comes to school with any of the above symptoms, you will be required to take them home and seek medical attention prior to them returning to Westgate.

We appreciate and encourage your support in reminding and reinforcing safe mitigation strategies outside of school so together we can work on stopping any spread of COVID-19 inside our building.  Below are our mitigation strategies at Westgate.

In Classrooms/Learning Spaces:

  • Students and staff are wearing masks
  • Frequent hand washing/ hand sanitizing
  • Assigned seating
  • HVAC is designed to ventilate outdoor air throughout the day
  • Windows are open (weather permitting)
  • Social distancing to the greatest extent possible
  • Wiping down of high touch surfaces throughout the day

In Cafeteria:

  • Lunch room is at 33% capacity (or less)
  • One grade level at a time
  • Assigned seating
  • Classroom cohorts remain seated together
  • Masks on when students are not actively eating/drinking
  • At least 3+ feet of distancing for all students
  • Plexiglass for students that face one other
  • Tables and spaces are thoroughly cleaned between each grade level classroom/cohort
  • Windows and doors open (weather permitting)
  • HVAC is designed to ventilate outdoor air throughout the day
