Message from Mrs. Castillo

Polo Day

Lemon Road Families,

Thank you for a spectacular opening week! The halls and classrooms were buzzing with positivity, engagement, and learning. Lions are forming friendships and connecting with their teachers each day. A huge thank you for the supports we have felt ensuring our students are safe and healthy this week. We appreciate families keeping children home if they are not well, communicating with us with questions, and the many offers for volunteers. Thank you PTA and parents for getting us umbrellas and tents for the kiss & ride lunch zone and for our first few parent volunteers – interested in volunteering? Please read below.

Looking forward to a fabulous second week,

Mrs. Castillo

Lemon Road Lunch

Outdoor Lunch

Lemon Road is committed to utilizing our full campus to ensure a safe lunch for all lions. More than half our students eat lunch outdoors each day – either under the tent behind the school or at picnic tables next to the kiss & ride loop. Three grades eat in the cafeteria ensuring maximum social distance, utilizing air purifiers, and time to clean between grade levels. In order to maintain this schedule, we need volunteers at each station to support our staff. Please use this sign-up genius to let us know if you can help us! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0D4AAFA92EA3F85-lemon

We are also looking for someone to be paid to support us daily with lunch. If you are interested in working 10:30 – 1:30 each day, please contact Mr. Birge at mbirge@fcps.edu

Room Parents

Ideally each homeroom has two room parents to support the teacher and serve as liaisons with the PTA. If you are interested in being a room parent, please let your classroom teacher know. We will host a room parent orientation soon and want to be sure all classes have this important role named. Questions about the role? Email Ms. Megginson, Room Parent Coordinator, to help you find the right way to support your child’s class. Her email is: willi3cm@gmail.com

Volunteer Fairfax Event

Volunteer

Lemon Road Elementary School is hosting a Volunteer Fairfax event on the 9/11 Day of Service on September 11th. This in-person project will remove invasive plants from the grounds at Lemon Road Elementary School and use natural methods of weed control. Volunteers will be able to learn about some plants that are found throughout our region and prepare the school’s garden areas for student outdoor learning. If volunteers are interested, there will be violet plants available to take home at the end of the session. You’re welcome to bring your own gloves, but they will also be available at the event. Please bring water and your mask. All ages welcome with adult supervision. Click on the link below to register, we hope to see you there!

Schoology - New for LRES

Lemon Road is excited to launch our new learning management system: Schoology.  Schoology is a learning space that enhances face-to-face and distance learning through communication, collaboration, and personalized learning.

Teachers can use Schoology to post their classroom materials online; to provide a safe forum for students to discuss their ideas and collaborate on projects; and to assign and collect homework electronically. It helps students stay organized and it keeps the class connected.

Parent Accounts

A Schoology Parent Account gives you access to:

  • Your child’s classes.
  • Your child’s upcoming assignments.
  • School, class, and group announcements.

Parent accounts will be available in mid-August. To access Schoology, parents will need to have an active SIS/ParentVUE account.

More information on how to login and use Schoology is available online

Health & Safety Guidance

The health and safety of all Lemon Road students is paramount to everything we do. Here is some information from FCPS that gives tips on how to stop the spread, as well as explains the process we use when there is a positive case.

FCPS Health and Safety Guidance Webpage

Our Health and Safety Guidance Webpage has the most current information about our layered prevention strategies, what happens if your child becomes ill at school, and the process when there is a pause in instruction or activities after a positive COVID case.

Flow Chart for Notification of a Positive Case

We know the pause process is frustrating and sometimes confusing for families. The flowchart below is posted to the FCPS website and explains the exact process LRES, FCPS, and the Fairfax County Health Department use to identify and notify close contacts after a positive case.

COVID Dashboard

All FCPS COVID-19 cases are reported via a dashboard posted to the FCPS website and updated daily. While this does not outline the number of students quarantining, it has tabs showing total number of cases, cases by school and cases by date.
