Spring Hill ES Panther Press

A Note from Principal Eck

Dear Spring Hill Families,

We had a great start to our school year. Our students are developing relationships and establishing daily routines.

We continue to fine-tune our transportation plan. Kiss and Ride is moving right along. Bus schedules are also improving.

We will kick off Positivity Project next week. The Positivity Project (P2) is dedicated to empowering America’s youth to build positive relationships by recognizing the character strengths in themselves and others. The vision is to help schools and families cultivate citizens and leaders who will enhance our communities and country. Positive psychology’s scientifically validated 24 character strengths serve as its foundation.

We plan to focus on a character trait each week throughout the year. Next week, we will focus on the Other People Mindset. We encourage you to talk with your child about these character traits. For more information, click here.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me or any member of our admin team if you have any questions or concerns.

Safety Drills During the School Year

Keeping students and staff safe is a priority for all of us. Each school has an emergency preparedness plan to respond to incidents such as fires and tornadoes. Schools are required by state law to practice emergency drills, including lockdown drills, each year. Schools are required to notify parents and guardians at least 24 hours before a school conducts a lockdown drill. However, schools are not required to give the specific date and time of the drill in advance.

The first lockdown drill of the school year must take place within the first 20 days of school. Preschool and kindergarten students are exempt from practicing the first lockdown drill. Our first lockdown drill will be on September 9, 2021.

Your child may come home and talk about their experience during the drill. We encourage you to talk with your child about the importance of being prepared for emergencies. Here are some helpful tips for families to use to support their students before and after school lockdown drills.

Working together, we create a safe, secure environment for students to learn and grow in our schools.

Testing Updates

I-Ready Testing

All students in grades 1-6  will participate in The iReady screening assessments for both Reading and Math. This testing will occur during the month of September. Your child's teacher will communicate the exact date of testing. More information regarding these assessments can be found at: https://www.fcps.edu/node/36613. Please contact Mrs. Amy Briggs arbriggs@fcps.edu (School Testing Coordinator/Assistant Principal) if you have any questions or concerns.

More information regarding the various assessments throughout the year and dates will be coming in the next few weeks.
