Welcome Back Eagles!

Dear Garfield Students and Families,

We are beyond excited to have our Eagles back in the building.  The best gift of all has been hearing the chatter and laughter in the classrooms and hallways! Students, staff and families are all learning new routines and adjusting to the schedules, including arrival and dismissal. Students are seeing old friends again, making new friends, and getting to know their classmates as teachers work to establish strong and healthy classroom communities where all students feel seen, heard, valued, and safe.

Thank you to all the students, staff and families who shared their thinking around our new school motto.  Students and teachers are continuing to unpack the meaning of connect, protect and respect as a school community. Next week, we will announce our new Eagle's name after all students have had a chance to vote!

Kiss n Ride/ Buses

Thank you for your flexibility with late buses and the long kiss-n-ride lines.  Each day has gotten better.  It would help tremendously if your family is consistent with arrival and dismissal so that students begin to establish a solid routine.

Masks

As a gentle reminder, please allow your student to pack an extra mask in case one breaks or becomes dirty.  Masks are required indoors. Additional guidance has been shared below.

Your principals,

April L. Cage, Principal

Rachel Waters, Assistant Principal

Universal Screener

The online iReady assessment (also known as the universal screener) provides an initial view of all students’ foundational skills to help teachers identify students who may have challenges in reading or mathematics. This fall, students in grades 1-6 will take the iReady reading and mathematics assessments. More information about the assessment can be found on the FCPS Universal Screener Parent Notification webpage. For questions, please contact your child’s teacher.

We ask that you use this document as a framework for discussing these expectations with your child so that he or she is well prepared for success when the school year begins. You will also find that this publication includes information that you may need throughout the school year, including contact numbers and other resources.
