Bonnie Brae Friday Updates August 27

Bonnie Brae Friday Updates

Message From the Principals

Dear BBES Families,

First, let us thank our Bonnie Brae students, parents and teacher and staff for a successful first week of school. It was great to see and hear BBES come alive again with the energy of students and staff  coming together again. Even with all of the challenges this year has presented, it felt good to be back in school.

The Covid-19  pandemic continues to impact our families, community and our school. Please know that the staff of Bonnie Brae is committed  to working with public health officials and FCPS to limit the spread of Covid. We are focused on ensuring the robust deployment of mitigation strategies in school to keep our students safe and able to access instruction. We are also committed to keeping you informed as much as possible and we appreciate your support as the year unfolds.

We want to thank the many parents who have volunteered to become essential volunteers to assist with supervising student during  our lunch period. Half of our students from each class eat in cafeteria during their lunch time. The other half of the class has lunch in the classroom. Our children have adjusted well and in speaking to many of them, they enjoy the change to a smaller setting. As you might imagine supervising students in both settings does create a challenge and that is where we've asked for your support. Thank you again to those who have shown interest in helping us out. We will be in touch soon for next steps.

We also wanted to share our appreciation for the PTO and the volunteers for today's ice cold treat during recess. What a great way to end an exciting first week back!

Thank you once again for your support of the BBES school staff, our PTO and most all, our children, who are great fun and are doing amazing things.

As always, please reach out it we can assist you in any way,

Dwayne Young, Elaine Woo, Scott Hawk

Digital Resource Consent

At Bonnie Brae Elementary, our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here: https://bonniebraees.fcps.edu/adopteddigitalresources. Further, you can find more information about approved digital resources in FCPS here: https://www.fcps.edu/resources/technology/digital-resources.

Included on this page is also a link to a form where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval and why we must request your consent before using certain tools. We encourage you to complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission. Please reach out to the school if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources we’ve chosen to use this year.

To provide your parental consent for each student in your family, please follow this link and follow the provided directions.

Student Rights & Responsibilities

The Student Rights and Responsibilities document explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable and supportive school environment. We ask that you use this document as a framework for discussing these expectations with your child or teen so that he or she is well prepared for success when the school year begins. You will also find that this publication includes information that you may need throughout the school year, including contact numbers and other resources. These links are also available on our BBES Website.

All students in FCPS should review the Student Rights and Responsibilities.

  • Review the Student Rights and Responsibilities and related resources
  • After reviewing the information, fill out the SR&R Acknowledgment Form
    • The form must be filled out for each child/student in grades K-6 in the household digitally or on paper
    • Parent/Guardians can acknowledge receipt of the SR&R in ParentVue in your child’s SIS account or sign the Parent Signature Sheet to acknowledge that you have received this document. Please e-sign through ParentVue or return the signed signature sheet to your child's school by October 29, 2021.

Birthday Treats

Given the current situation with COVID-19 and the prevalence of allergies within our building, we are no longer allowing birthday treats at this time. We recognize birthdays can be a joyous time to celebrate with friends and classmates and out of an abundance of caution, we are going to limit opportunities for students to be eating within close proximity of one another. We appreciate your understanding.

Child Pick Ups

If you need to pick up your child early, please notify the office and email the classroom teacher. We ask that early sign outs are limited as students thrive on routine and constancy. We request students not be signed out anytime after 2:45pm. This helps to alleviate any confusion prior to dismissal for students and school staff.

Picture Day

Fall Picture Day is on Wednesday, September 8 throughout the day! Students will attend picture day with their teachers. Flyers and order forms were sent home via Tuesday Folders and are also available on our Bonnie Brae ES Website. Online ordering is available through the Lifetouch Website with Picture Day ID: EVT6JK4DP
