Traffic Patterns
- Door #1 (aka Main Office/Flag Pole Side/ Seahawk Drive)
This is where the bus loop is. This is not where students should be dropped off or picked up between the hours of 7:30 – 8:30 AM and 2:30- 3:30PM. Except for the 15 visitor spots, all spots are numbered and assigned to staff.
- Door #4 (aka Stadium side / Student Parking / Kiss & Ride)
This parking lot is where our students who drive park as well as the location of kiss & ride line. We have more students driving than in the last 5 years, so the lot is full! We are learning each day and adjusting as we go. As we have done in the past, there will be no left turn out of the student lot. Here are things that will help us all make Kiss & Ride more efficient:
- Pull as far up and along the curb as possible to drop off and pick up your child.
- Do not stop and drop or pick up your child on South Lakes Drive. Not only is it incredibly dangerous, causes traffic flow to stop and it is also illegal.
- Have your student keep their things in the car rather than the trunk for faster retrieval.
- If you are waiting for your child and know that they will be a few minutes because they need to see a teacher or counselor, please pull in a parking space to wait for them rather than parking in the kiss & ride line.
Parking Passes
We are currently sold out of parking passes. You are welcome to apply to be put on the waiting list. Please do not pay the fee until you are notified by Mr. Williams, Security Specialist, that you have been moved off the waitlist.
Fairfax Connector Bus Passes
Students can get a Fairfax Connect Bus Pass application in the main office or it can be found online at https://southlakeshs.fcps.edu/about/safety-and-security in English & Spanish. After the student and parent/guardian review and sign the form, it needs be turned into the Security Office, room 330. A pass will be activated and issued to the student.
NOTE: Security is not in the office at the beginning and end of the day as they are tending to other areas of the building. Lunch is the best time to take care of this.
 FCPS Buses
We are experiencing delays in buses arriving in the morning as well as late pickups in the afternoon. FCPS Transportation is working hard to combine some routes that are not full so they can be as efficient as possible in their routes. They are making some adjustments and we are trying to keep up with the changes, particularly when runs are combined in the afternoon.
Our last class dismisses at 2:55 and buses leave at approximately 3:05, giving students 10 minutes to get to their bus. If a student needs to stay after they should plan for another way to get home.
FCPS Late Buses
We are scheduled to have late buses two days a week. Late buses are available for students who stay after with a teacher or for students engaged in school-sponsored afterschool activities. The teacher/coach/club sponsor will issue a late pass, which is required to get on the bus. Students who leave campus are not eligible to ride the FCPS late bus.
We have requested late buses on Monday and Wednesday starting the week of September 20th. Once we get confirmation that transportation can handle this request will we send out more information.
