First Day of School Reminders -- Monday, August 23, 2021
School starts at 8:25 AM and ends at 3:20 PM. Students can be dropped off starting at 8:25 AM. Our staff will be available to help students find their room on the first day of school (parents will ONLY be able to walk students to class on the First Day of School). Starting August 24th, parents cannot walk their students to class in order to limit the number of people in the building for contact tracing purposes.
If you are driving your child to school you must use Kiss & Ride. Please stay in the car line and do not drive around the cars. We want to ensure that all Eagles are safe at all times. Please do not park on the road and let your student out of the car and walk across the school parking lot.
Visitors & Volunteers
At Gunston we love the opportunity for our community to come in and volunteer during the day, however, the current health guidelines restrict visitors and volunteers at this time. This includes joining your child for lunch in the cafeteria. We will update this policy when our guidelines change.
Masks
FCPS requires all staff and students to wear a mask while indoors. Masks should fit snugly and cover the nose and mouth. Students may remove their mask while actively eating or drinking in the cafeteria and while playing on the playground or during outdoor PE.
Staying Healthy
If your child or a family member is experiencing Covid-19 like symptoms, we ask that you do not send your child to school. You can learn more about how we are keeping our Eagles safe here.
Breakfast and Lunch
Breakfast and lunch will continue to be free for all students through the 2021-2022 school year. Breakfast and lunch menus, as well as nutritional information, can be found here.
What Is Schoology
Fairfax County Public Schools’ contract with Blackboard ended on June 30. Our new learning management system, Schoology, is a learning space that enhances face-to-face and distance learning through communication, collaboration, and personalized learning.
Teachers use Schoology to post their classroom materials online; to provide a safe forum for students to discuss their ideas and collaborate on projects; and to assign and collect homework electronically. It helps students stay organized and it keeps the class connected.
Parent Accounts
A Schoology Parent Account gives you access to:
- Your child’s classes.
- Your child’s upcoming assignments.
- School, class, and group announcements.
Parent accounts will be available in mid-August. To access Schoology, parents will need to have an active SIS/ParentVUE account.
More information on how to login and use Schoology is available online.

Families, We Need Your Consent for Select Digital Resources ASAP!
Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your permission before they can be used. These resources have been investigated by FCPS and meet federal guidelines. Our teachers would love to get started as soon as possible. Please find our school’s list of the resources and a link to provide digital consent on our website. You will need to know your child’s Student ID and your enrolling email address.
Virtual Parent Information Session was held on Wednesday, August 18th.
Link for the recording of this session can be found here.
