Dear Garfield Students and Families,
Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! We hope you've had an amazing summer! At Garfield we are committed to providing a rigorous program that engages all students. Our school motto is: In the Nest, we do our best to connect, protect and respect! During "Meet the Teacher" students and families shared what meaning those words hold for them. Earlier in the day, teachers had a chance to do the same. We will share our collective input around our motto and how it helps to reinforce the three areas of focus for FCPS --Affirm, Asses and Advance. We look forward to seeing our Eagles on Monday!
Your principals,
April L. Cage, Principal
Rachel Waters, Assistant Principal

- Students will be required to wear masks in the cafeteria when not actively eating and drinking.
- Students will need to wear their masks while going through the serving line.
- Students will put their mask back on when they finish their meal.
- Our cafeteria space will be regularly and thoroughly cleaned with a sanitizing solution.
- Students will wash their hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer before and after eating.
Parents have rights regarding access to records and surveys, as well as the choice to opt-out of curriculum. Further information can be found here.
FCPS has an in-depth Student Rights and Responsibilities handbook for parents to review with their student(s)The Student Rights and Responsibilities document explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable and supportive school environment. We ask that you use this document as a framework for discussing these expectations with your child so that he or she is well prepared for success when the school year begins. You will also find that this publication includes information that you may need throughout the school year, including contact numbers and other resources.
On page 3 of the SR&R Handbook, you will find the Parent Signature Sheet. This page should be signed and returned to the school no later than October 29, 2021. By signing and returning this page, you acknowledge that you have received the SR & R: A Guide for Families for 2021-22. This booklet is required by law.

Here is what parents need to know now:
- As of July 2021, Blackboard 24-7 Learning or Blackboard Collaborate Ultra (BBCU) is no longer in use. • Schoology has a connected web conferencing tool, Zoom • Schoology works with Google Drive • You need a SIS/ParentVUE account to login to Schoology:
