Anticipated Bus Delays
Due to the bus driver shortage, FCPS will be increasing “double back” bus runs, meaning a bus is required to run two scheduled routes back to back that would normally have been covered by two separate buses. PSAT Information
This is a reminder that Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) will offer the Preliminary SAT (PSAT)/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) to students in grades 10-11 on October 13, 2021. A PSAT/NMSQT Testing Notification letter is posted online. Students with disabilities who have testing accommodations documented in a 504 plan or an individualized education plan (IEP) may be eligible for testing accommodations on the PSAT/NMSQT. The College Board must approve a formal request for each student. If the student already has College Board accommodations approved from a previous PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, SAT, or AP test, then no further action is needed. Once instated, accommodations remain in place for all College Board testing. The Accommodations Process for College Board Testing webpage provides instructions on how to request College Board testing accommodations. To request new or amended College Board accommodations for the October PSAT/NMSQT, return the forms to Cedar Lane by August 10, 2021.
There are two forms to return: an input form on which you will circle the requested accommodations, and a consent form signed by parent/guardian and student. Schoology Parent Accounts
As you may have heard, Schoology is replacing Blackboard 24/7 as Fairfax County’s Learning Management System. Schoology parent accounts will be available by 8/13. Students, families, and staff throughout FCPS and in our school community will use Schoology (pronounced /SKOO-luh-jee/) as our learning management system.
Here is what you need to know now:
- You need a SIS/ParentVUE account to login to Schoology: http://bit.ly/FCPSSIS
- Use your SIS/ParentVUE login information to login to Schoology: https://lms.fcps.edu. Look for the FCPS logo to make sure you are on the right login page.
Parent Help Desk Summer Hours
The Parent Technology Help Desk will continue to support parents and students through the summer months.
Beginning on Monday, June 14, we are moving the service to our in-house Service Desk. The phone number for parents will stay the same - 833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS) - and the reduced hours for summer are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday in June, July and early August. Outside of those hours, parents can also visit the Parent and Student IT Support Portal to find self-help resources or submit a tech support request ticket.
Laptop Distribution at Cedar Lane SY 2021-22
Students who are attending academy classes, will be issued laptops on the first day of school, as they need them to participate in academy. All other students will be issued laptops during the second week of school (August 30-September 2). This allows teachers to begin building relationships and setting expectations for the classroom and the building. Back to School Night
Thursday, September 2nd, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. In-person. Masks must be worn by all in the building.
Universal Masking for SY 2021-22
As you may have seen, FCPS announced Universal Masking for the coming school year. All students, staff, and visitors must wear masks while inside the building and on school buses. You can find more information here: why we are starting the school year with universal masking.
Bring Your Own Device Set Up Instructions
If you student wants to bring their own cell phone or other device, they can follow these instructions to add them to the FCPS network, once they are in range of an FCPS facility.

You can set up your own device from any FCPS facility from the parking lot of that facility. It should then pick up the network at any other FCPS facility. School Staff are not allowed to configure student’s personal devices.
