Welcome Back!

We welcome all students back to school on Monday, August 23.  Class schedules may be viewed in their SIS Student account.  Monday will be a white day, and students will start their day in Advisory (4th block).  Tuesday will begin our regular rotation of Blue (even blocks – 2, 4, 6 and 8) and Red (odd blocks – 1, 3, 5, and 7) Days.  You can find the blue/red calendar here:  EHS Blue/Red Calendar

We look forward to welcoming everyone back into the building on Monday!

First Day of School

The first day of school is almost here! We invite Edison High School families to share all those happy first day moments and use #firstdayfairfax and #FCPSReturningStrong in your social media posts. Remember, your photos should reflect FCPS safety practices including universal masking and social distancing when possible.

Laptop Distribution

Students who have not yet picked up their laptops will do so on Tuesday and Wednesday. There is no distribution on Monday, August 23.

FCPS Bus Information

Many students come to and from Edison High School in a personal vehicle, ride the Fairfax Connector Bus, or ways other than taking a school bus. However, if your student is assigned to ride a school bus, please have them take it at least once within the first 30 days of school. If they do not ride at least once, they will be dropped from the bus route.

FCPS Bus Service

As we prepare for children to come to school and go home on buses this fall, we ask you to be aware of possible adjustments to routes and scheduling. A national bus driver shortage is impacting FCPS and some routes may be longer or occasionally delayed as we work through the situation. Edison High School will keep you informed of changes as soon as information is available. Your patience and understanding as we make adjustments is appreciated. EHS and FCPS is working hard to address the need for drivers and plan for transportation in a way that has the least impact on students.

You may consider driving, walking, or biking to school while we work through the driver shortage and adjust routes. Car pools or group walks and bikes are also encouraged for those who are able to help relieve pressure on buses. If you plan to walk or bike to school, watch this short video on pedestrian safety with your child.

Find out more about bus routes on our website and download the Here Comes the Bus mobile app.

If you or someone you know has interest in becoming a bus driver for FCPS, now is a great time to come on board! FCPS is offering up to $2,000 in a signing bonus for new bus drivers who meet eligibility requirements and complete the new driver employment criteria. Find out more and apply today!

Parking Passes

We will start selling parking passes for students on Monday, August 23. Students may stop in the main office and ask for an application. The cost (which is the same at all FCPS high schools) is $200, which can be paid through your MySchoolBucks account.

Vaccine Mandate

FCPS will require all employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 by the end of October. Staff who choose not to, or are unable to be vaccinated, will be required to submit proof of a negative test on a regular basis. FCPS is planning divisionwide vaccination clinics, beginning in the next few weeks, to help staff and students get vaccinated and receive booster shots when eligible. More details will be shared over the coming weeks.

No-Cost Breakfast and Lunch for All Students

Every student is eligible for one no-cost breakfast and one no-cost lunch each school day. However, if your student would like to purchase additional meals or a la carte items, they will need to pay. The best way to purchase items this year is to use MySchoolBucks. Set up your student’s MySchoolBucks account and help them memorize their pin. If you have questions about MySchoolBucks, Edison's front office staff can help.

Setting up a MySchoolBucks account for your student is especially helpful during the current nationwide coin shortage. FCPS cash registers will have limited coins available at the start of the school year to provide change for cash purchases. Purchases made with MySchoolBucks also keeps lines moving quickly.

Your child may choose to bring their meals and snacks to school this year. Edison High School encourages this practice for students who have specific dietary requirements or are particularly picky. Bringing food from home ensures your child will have the meals and snacks they enjoy to fuel their day of learning.

Be ready on day one by setting up your child’s MySchoolBucks account and looking over the menus
