FCPS’ layered prevention strategies and Mask Guidelines:
- Masks
- Vaccination
- Daily screening for illness and staying home when sick
- Cleaning and disinfecting
- Hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette
- Ventilation
- Contact tracing and quarantining
- Protocols for potential temporary COVID-19 closure
Please talk with your child before school begins about the importance of wearing masks at school to protect each other against the spread of the Delta variant of COVID-19,. I appreciate your help in encouraging students to do their part to contribute to a safe school environment. We begin the new school year with a mask requirement in place for everyone indoors on school properties and buses. Any student who does not comply with the mask requirement, and is not exempt from the requirement as outlined in Regulation 2109.1, will not be allowed to participate in face-to-face learning. Students who refuse to attend school due to a refusal to wear a mask, will receive an unexcused absence. Intentional removal of or refusal to wear a face covering will be treated as a violation of the FCPS dress code policy (Regulation 2613).
These strategies are designed to protect everyone, whether they interact with the same group all day, every day, or interact with a variety of students, staff, and visitors.

Students will be issued an FCPS device for school use. Your child will take their device home with them each day, and should come to school each day with their device fully charged. We will have laptops distributed by August 27th.
Get a free book for reading this summer!
All 2020-21 Bailey’s Upper ES students are invited! Bring your list of 10 books you read this summer to the school library and choose a free new book and bookmark. Names of summer readers will also be celebrated on the Bailey’s News show. Reading lists are due no later than Friday September 10.
Students are welcome to either use the forms distributed in June or write a list of the books they read on their own paper. Additional forms are available in the library in English and Spanish.

The Principal/Parent Coffee is scheduled to be held at 9am on August 26th. This meeting was originally intended to be in person for parents . At this time, families may choose to attend in person and we will also offer it as a virtual meeting. A link will be sent to families of Bailey’s Upper and Bailey’s to attend as this information will cover both schools. This is a an annual information session and we are now required to have the meeting prior to August 27th. Last year this information was presented at the January PTA Meeting.
Bus stops and route information was shared with families via the ParentVue accounts on August 10. All staff and students riding a bus will be required to wear a mask. For more information about bus transportation, including how to access the Bus Delay Notification System, visit the Transportation page.
FCPS transitioned to Schoology as our learning management system this summer. Students, families, and staff will begin using the system as we Return Strong this fall. Please remind families to request a SIS ParenVUE account if they do not already have one.
Why did FCPS choose Schoology?
- Ease of use
- Ability for students to collaborate during and after class time
- Integration with Google
- Mobile Accessibility
- Students can show learning over time

Resources For Families in Preparation For The 2021-2022 School Year
- Full-length and snippet videos
- These short videos in multiple languages will help parents learn how to navigate Schoology.
At Bailey’s Upper ES our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here: https://baileysupperes.fcps.edu/adopteddigitalresources . Additionally, you can find more information about approved digital resources in FCPS here: https://www.fcps.edu/resources/technology/digital-resources.
Included on this page is also a link to a form where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval and why we must request your consent before using certain tools. We encourage you to complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission. A paper copy of the form will be sent home with your child the first week of school. Please reach out to your child’s teacher or our School Based Instructional Technology Specialist, Nicole Cassidy (nlcassidy@fcps.edu) if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources we’ve chosen to use this year.
