Cultural Observances and Religious Holidays on the FCPS Calendar
The Fairfax County School Board voted to approve a calendar for the 2021-22 School Year that is designed to recognize, respect, and honor the plurality of religious and cultural observances in Fairfax County. The calendar ensures students will not have to make choices between honoring their cultural or religious beliefs and missing a test or school activity.
On the 15 observance days listed below, Little Run will not schedule tests or quizzes. Tests and quizzes will be given before any of these days, so students are not expected to study on the observance day.
In addition, Little Run will not schedule events including field trips or special activities on any of the 15 observance days.
The calendar recognizes 15 diverse religious and cultural observances including:
- Eid al-Adha
- Rosh Hashanah
- Yom Kippur
- Día de los Muertos
- Diwali
- Bodhi Day
- Three Kings Day/Epiphany
- Orthodox Christmas
- Orthodox Epiphany
- Lunar New Year
- Ramadan
- Good Friday
- Theravada
- Orthodox Good Friday
- Last Night of Passover
- Eid al-Fitr
The 2021-22 calendar also separates spring break from any religious or cultural observances.
Digital Tools Permission Form 2021-22 Little Run ES
At Little Run, we will use a variety of FCPS-approved digital tools to support in-person learning this year! We need you to give consent, as soon as possible, for your child to use them. We would like to start using these digital tools for learning right away! Please scan the QR code below using the camera app on your phone or click here to fill out the online permission form and read more details. You must fill out one permission form per student. Thanks for helping so we can use digital tools to communicate and collaborate right from the first day of school!
FCPS Returns to 5 Days
FCPS is Returning Strong for five days a week of in-person learning starting Monday, August 23rd!
We all have a part to play in how we return strong and stay strong all year. The most essential thing we can do is keep our schools safe and healthy places to learn. This fall, we’re implementing layered prevention strategies to keep everyone healthy- especially those who are not yet able to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Read more about how these strategies work together.
If you would like additional information on our safety measures, please check here and here.
Screen for Illness Every Day, Stay Home When Sick
One of the most important prevention strategies guidelines is screening students daily for any signs of illness prior to leaving home for school. Any student who is ill or has COVID-like symptoms should remain at home. The daily health screening questionnaire and all translated versions can be found on our Health and Safety Guidance webpage.
This document provides the details of the policies and protocols related to COVID-19, and it is continually updated to align with public health guidance as it evolves during the school year. Daily completion of the health screening is done on an honor basis and does not need to be sent to the school.
Read more about checking for symptoms and how to prepare to return to school after illness.
Monitoring by Health & Safety Teams
This year, FCPS will be using an independent third party firm to perform safety team observations. Safety teams will observe and report on the health and safety mitigation measures in schools and make sure they are being implemented with fidelity.
In preparation for a strong return to 5 days of in person instruction, we will also continuously monitor our community health conditions as well as adhere to FHD, VHD and CDC guidance.
Conditions for Potential Temporary COVID-19 Closure
FCPS is committed to continuity of learning during the 2021-22 school year and the school division is using layered prevention strategies to do everything possible to ensure our schools remain safe, healthy and open. We do, however, have plans in place to ensure continuity of learning in the event health authorities require a temporary closure to protect the health of students, staff, and the community. Read more about protocols.
We are excited to announce that the Little Run ES PTA was selected as a National PTA School of Excellence. This is the result of a two year effort to develop and improve our family-school partnership. Thank you to all who completed our two surveys for this effort and of course to all our amazing volunteers that make everything happen at LRES!
