Welcome Back to Bonnie Brae August 20

Welcome Back Bonnie Brae

Message From the Principals

Hello Bonnie Brae Families!

Wow, what a fantastic week it's been! The wet weather could not dampen our spirits this past week! It's been great to welcome the Bonnie Brae Staff back to prepare for the year. Our Welcome Walk, Virtual Back to School Night, and Supply Drop Off’s were wonderful events to kick off the year! It was great to see so many of you at our events this week! Check out one of our many celebrations from our Welcome Walk in the photo below.

We are excited to welcome nearly 760 students back to Bonnie Brae Elementary School (BBES) next Monday, August 23rd ! If you'd like to share any of your family first day photos with us please send them to our wonderful School Based Technology Specialist, Ms. Demick (eademick@fcps.edu). We'd love to post them to BBES  Twitter and Facebook page

Our main form of communication with you will be News You Choose which will be delivered via email each Friday evening. Please use the following link to sign up for News You Choose. You can also find school information on our BBES webpage (https://bonniebraees.fcps.edu/) and also on Facebook and Twitter @BonnieBraeES if you use those platforms. The main FCPS webpage (https://www.fcps.edu/) is also a great location for system wide information.

Our teachers will also be sending regular communications home so please look for that either by email or through our BBES Tuesday folders. Also, please plan for a  virtual parent/teacher conference with your child's teacher sometime during the first quarter. Your teacher will have more information coming soon.

We are excited for our first day of school next Monday, August 23rd! We request that parents who are able to walk their child to school please do so on the first day. Parents will be able to walk their child to their classroom. Walkers should plan to arrive no earlier than 8:20am. Please remember that we will not have staff on duty until 8:20 am and students should not be left unattended without supervision. Our Kiss and Ride line begins at 8:20am and at 3:30pm for afternoon pick up.Only those wearing masks will be permitted to enter Bonnie Brae. Everyone at Bonnie Brae will be wearing masks at all times. Please observe proper health screening and social distancing protocols at all times at Bonnie Brae. We really need each of us looking out for all of us so that our students can have a safe and healthy return to school. As always, should you have any questions please reach out to us and we hope that, by working together, we can have a safe, healthy, and happy return to school on August 23rd.

Sincerely,

Dwayne Young, Elaine Woo, Scott Hawk

Welcome Back Message

Ms. Megan McLaughlin represents the Braddock District on the Fairfax County School Board and has a message for the BBBES community as we return to school. Ms. McLaughlin's welcome back message can be viewed at the following link

PTO Thank You!

Thank you to our PTO for your generosity with staff lunch after our welcome walk and for coordinating an opportunity for our students and families to connect during our supply drop off.

Planning to Have Your Child Ride the Bus?

Eligible bus riders needing transportation may review student route assignment by accessing ParentVue. Families should have also received an eNotify message to remind parents to check their ParentView this week. For more information about bus transportation, including how to access the Bus Delay Notification System, visit the Transportation page.

Kiss and Ride

As we welcome students back to Bonnie Brae ES, we want to ensure the safe arrival and departure of each child. Bonnie Brae ES has an established area called the Kiss & Ride, which is designed as a safe place for adults in private vehicles to load and unload children. With the cooperation of all drivers the Kiss and Ride is able to provide an efficient and safe transfer of children.

If you are interested in using Kiss and Ride to drop off or pick up your child, please complete the embedded form and review our Kiss and Ride safety guide.

Welcome back to Bonnie Brae STRINGS and BAND!

We are excited to once again offer live “In-Person” instruction

to ALL interested 4th, 5th, and 6th Grade students!

  • ALL interested 4th Grade students may choose to sign up for STRINGS!
  • ALL interested 5th & 6th Grade students may choose to sign up for either STRINGS or BAND!

During the first week of school, our students will have the opportunity to see and hear a variety of the Instrumental choices that we offer, so please keep an eye out for more information to come, such as Sign-Up Forms and how to rent an instrument to use for class!

We are so excited to be together in our schools once more!  Please consider signing up for Band or Strings – making music together in a live setting will really make this year special for all!

We look forward to seeing you soon!

FCPS and Bonnie Brae are ready for a strong return to school on August 23rd!

The Return to School webpage and FAQs webpage are regularly updated with the latest return to school information. The most updated information regarding return to school, health and safety guidance and frequently asked questions can be found here in multiple languages.

Lunch and Breakfast

Each student is eligible for one no-cost breakfast and one no-cost lunch each school day. If your student would like to purchase additional meals or a la carte items, they will need to pay. The best way to purchase items this year is to use MySchoolBucks. Set up your student’s MySchoolBucks account and help them memorize their pin. If you have questions about MySchoolBucks, your school’s front office staff can help.

Your child may choose to bring their meals and snacks to school this year. FCPS encourages this practice for students who have specific dietary requirements or are particularly picky. Bringing food from home ensures your child will have the meals and snacks they enjoy to fuel their day of learning.

Our lunch and breakfast menu can be found here
