Traffic Flow and Kiss and Ride
Chantilly is a school of over 3500 people gaining access to a building with 2 entrances. Traffic is very, very congested. It is necessary for us to provide you with the 2 visuals below so that you are familiar with traffic flow and restricted access areas during arrival and departure. Please review them so as to avoid disrupting the busy flow of traffic.
Students are encouraged to walk, ride a bike, or come on the bus to facilitate an ease of arrival. Kiss and Ride is always crowded and slow.
The picture below is to inform you of how traffic control works at Chantilly High School during ARRIVAL.
Kiss and Ride is the YELLOW area along the fire lane on the south side of the building near Door 11 only.
The areas in RED areas are off limits to Kiss and Ride due to bus movement and staff/student flow for parking.
The areas in WHITE are off limits as they are bus drop off and faculty parking.
Security and Admin are present to ensure the flow is as designed. Please follow their directions.

The next picture below show traffic limitations and access for DEPARTURE
Lockdown Drill
Keeping students and staff safe is a priority for all of us. We have a crisis management and emergency preparedness plan for our school that is reviewed and updated regularly. Our plan includes procedures on how to respond to incidents such as fires and tornadoes. Students and staff regularly practice these drills every school year. We also practice lockdown drills.
A new Virginia Law (22.1-137.2) requires schools to notify parents at least 24 hours before a school practices a lockdown drill. However, we are not required to share the exact date and time of the drill. We are required to practice lockdown drills two times a year. FCPS lockdown drills do not include any type of active shooter scenario training, they are instruction and classroom based.
We will conduct a lockdown drill at our school soon.
Additional information on our lockdown drill program to include parent tips and FAQs can be found on the Emergency Planning and Crisis Response web page. After reviewing this content, you should discuss the value of these safety drills with your child.
Keeping our school safe and secure for all students and staff involves the participation of the entire school community, and we thank you for your help to keep our school safe.
Mask Guidance
Masks are required on the bus and in school. More information about his can be found within the FCPS guidelines below.

Some Buses Will Need to Double-Back
Due to a county-wide shortage of bus drivers, some CHS bus routes will be impacted. In particular, the drivers of buses CN3 and CN4 will have to “double back” to pick up students that cannot fit on one run. Please know that students on these buses will be marked excused if they are late. We will continue to work with officials in FCPS Transportation to address this issue as soon as possible. Parents/guardians of students on impacted buses may want to consider alternative transportation if possible.
