Welcome Walk and Open House Tomorrow!

Good afternoon, Cub Run Families!

We are so excited to meet students and families tomorrow for two opportunities to connect with your children's teachers:

Thursday, August 19th - Cub Run Welcome Walk, 8:30-11:30AM

We're thrilled to be bringing back this time-honored Cubby tradition when  teachers greet students at their front doors!

Thursday, August 19th - Open House, 3:00-3:30 and 3:30-4:00

Families/students with last names beginning with A-M will come during the first time slot (3:00-3:30), and those with last names beginning with N-Z will come during the second slot (3:30-4:00). This time gives families a chance to find their students' classrooms, meet their children's teachers, drop off schools supplies (lists are here), and sign up for the PTA! Please note that masks are required of everyone for this event, regardless of vaccination status.

Welcome to Cub Run’s New Cubby Mascot!

While our old cubby has served us well over many years, the time has come for an updated version of our Cub Run mascot! Art teacher extraordinaire, Cindy Brock, redesigned our cubby over the summer, and we love our new cubby! The cubby is modeled after the only bear native to Virginia, which is the Virginia Black Bear.  Many thanks also goes to the PTA, who will be providing a new cubby t-shirt for all students and staff!

Health and Safety Overview

At the open house, our admin team will be available to answer any questions about health and safety COVID protocols. Here are some answers to questions that I have received from families:

  • Students and staff must wear masks indoors. Masking outdoors is not required. If you wish for your child to wear a mask outdoors, please communicate this expectation clearly to your child and to your child’s teacher.
  • Like last year, frequent hand sanitizing, handwashing, and surface cleaning; will be carried out.
  • All students will be eating lunch in the cafeteria distanced a minimum of 3 feet apart (or more when grade level size allows).
  • Students will be required to wear their masks as soon as they finish eating.
  • Seating charts will ensure students limit exposure to only a few classmates in class, in the cafeteria, and in specials, which will assist us in the event that contact tracing is needed.
  • There will be a peanut-free table set up this year -- please let your child's teacher know if you want your child to sit there.
  • Students will eat snack outdoors, weather-permitting, and stagger snacking (by space or time) if eating indoors.

Please ensure your child is ready to attend school safely by promoting the following behaviors over the next two weeks:

  • Establishing bedtimes and wake-times consistent with school schedule
  • Eating at designated times
  • Tolerating masks
  • Handwashing for at least 20 seconds
  • Toileting, dressing and eating independently

Bell Schedule, Arrival and Dismissal

Cub Run’s Bell Schedule: 8:40 AM - 3:25 PM

Arrival

Students will be welcomed into the building at 8:30 every morning. Those who are getting breakfast will pick up their sack breakfast and take it straight to class. When eating breakfast and/or snack in classrooms each day, students will alternate by space or by time to ensure that students are not sitting closer than 3 feet from each other when eating.

Bus Riders

Please make sure your child learns his or her PM bus number. Bus numbers are displayed on the Smartboard in their class during silent dismissal. Teachers will help ensure students leave the class when their bus number is displayed.

Walkers

Please discuss with your child where you plan to meet up with them after school dismisses, depending on your route home. If your child is a walker in Kindergarten, plan to meet them by Door 4 near the playground.

Kiss & Ride

For families who use the Kiss-and-Ride line, please wait until you can pull up towards the front of the line, where a staff member will supervise your child’s approach to your car. Please do not park and walk through the Kiss-and-Ride line to pick up your child, as this poses a safety risk.

MEALS

Free Meals Extended

The Federal program to provide free lunch to all students K-12 has been extended through the 2021-2022 school year. All students may access school meals (breakfast and/or lunch) free of charge. Hot lunch will be provided this year which students will access through the lunch line. Families will be asked to provide notification when they plan to access these meals in order to ensure accurate meal counts.
