Principal's Message

Hello Fairhill Families!

My name is Ted Cooper and I am your PROUD new Principal at Fairhill Elementary School!  This is my 9th year working in FCPS and I could not be more humbled and excited to start this year at Fairhill. Throughout my transitions I have met many amazing teachers and staff who have been welcoming and happy to share all the wonderful things I will learn about Fairhill. Last week at our kindergarten playdate, I had the opportunity to meet some of our newest Fairhill students and some returning members as well. I could not be more thankful for the support during the transition. I am looking forward to many opportunities to meet you, talk with you, work together, and learn together. I hope to see you all at the Popsicles on the Playground PTA event on September 2nd at 6:30 p.m.

Please don’t hesitate to come say “hi” when you see both Courtney Korb, Assistant Principal, and myself outside during arrival and dismissal. Your partnership is extremely important to both of us.

Lunchtime

Lunch at Fairhill may look a little different this year from years past.  While FCPS is unable to implement full physical distance in our school with the return of 99.5% of our students, we will implement as much physical distance as our space permits. Some students will be eating in the cafeteria and some students will eat in their classroom in order to promote as much physical distance as possible. Please see below for more information about lunchtime at Fairhill:

  • Students will be required to wear masks in the cafeteria when not actively eating and drinking.
  • Students will be required to wear masks while going through the serving line.
  • Students will put their mask back on when they finish their meal.
  • Cafeteria spaces will be regularly and thoroughly cleaned with a sanitizing solution.
  • Students will have an opportunity to to use hand sanitizer upon entering the cafeteria each day

At this time we are temporarily suspending the opportunity for parents and families to eat lunch with their child at school.  As health conditions improve , we hope to again offer  that opportunity for families. All students will be offered no cost breakfast and lunch for the entire school year. Menus are available here.

REturn to school

Returning Strong for Five in Fall!

Fairhill Staff is excited to have our students back in person this fall!  Please click here to read all about the new rules and changes that will be implemented in FCPS schools this year, such as meal information, returning to school safely, health and safety guidance, and masking up.

The first day of school is always a favorite day for teachers, families and students! It is important for children to establish the routine of coming to school. We ask all families to have your student commute the same way each day, both AM and PM as either a walker, by bus, or by Kiss and Ride beginning the first day of school.  The doors will open each day at 9:10 a.m. and dismissal is at 4:05 p.m. For example, if you want your child to ride the bus each morning, please have her/him ride the bus to school on the first day.

Please talk with your child so they understand how they are going home and share with your teacher prior to the first day of school. Back to School Bash is a great time to share this information. This communication helps ensure that everyone is dismissed successfully.

This year, due to COVID precautions, we will have all staff members assigned to a duty post to help students walk into the building without families. In an abundance of safety, we will be encouraging families to say goodbye to their child outside and a staff member will walk them to their classroom. Families will not be allowed in the building to walk their student to class.

As well as providing safe schools, FCPS is providing safe transportation for our students.  All students and staff are required to wear masks on all buses. The CDC federal order requiring masks be worn on public transportation remains in effect and applies to buses operated by Virginia public schools.

You can find your students' bus stops and times on your ParentVUE page.

Mask Up!

Masks are an essential tool in preventing the spread of COVID-19 and protecting those unable to be vaccinated. To ensure a safe start to the school year, masks will be required for everyone, regardless of vaccination status, inside FCPS school buildings.

With respect to Fall 2021 Health and Safety practices, FCPS will continue to follow the guidance put forth by clinical researchers and medical providers from the CDC, VDH, and the FCHD to ensure the safest classrooms possible. This includes FCPS’ face covering (mask) requirements. Click here for more information.
