Belvedere Back-to-School News & Announcements

From the Administration

Dear Belvedere Family:

We are so excited to welcome you to Belvedere this school year!  Our staff is working hard to get classrooms ready and to welcome you to Open House this Thursday.  Please see schedule below:

  • First through Fifth grade Open House will take place on Thursday, August 19, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. We welcome you to stop by at any time during Open House hours.
  • Preschool Autism will schedule individual Open House times in the Preschool Autism classroom on Thursday, August 19 from 10 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
  • Preschool Special Education classes will contact each family to schedule a time to meet.
  • FCPS Preschool families (former FECEP) will hold a virtual Orientation on August 26 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Open House is an opportunity for students and parents to meet the teacher, see the classroom, and drop off supplies.  We will hold a virtual Back to School Night on September 9, which will be the time when you will learn about the grade level curriculum and school procedures more in depth.

The first day of school is Monday, August 23. Our school hours are from 9:20 until 4:05. You may drop students off beginning at 8:55. To keep our students safe,  parents will NOT be allowed to walk their children into the building.  Thank you for understanding.

We welcome you and look forward to seeing you soon.

Best Regards,

Cecilia Vanderhye, Principal and Kelly Cabezas, Assistant Principal

Please join us for our Open House for students in grades 1-5 this Thursday, August 19 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.  Drop by anytime during these hours to meet your teacher, see the classroom, drop off your school supplies, and get excited for the new school year!

Child's Route Home after School

To ensure a smooth beginning of the school year, we would like to know how your child (or children) will be getting home on the first day of school, and what their regular mode of transportation from school after the first day will be. If you have not already returned the paper form, please complete the survey here for each of your children at Belvedere by Friday, August 20.

If your child's transportation needs to be changed during the year, please call  (703-916-6800) or email the school office to notify us of the change.

Important Forms to be Returned

All students will receive a packet of "first day forms" either during the Open House on August 19 or on the first day of school.  Please review, sign, and return these forms to your child's teacher.

Parents can also opt to submit their child's Emergency Care and Health Information Forms through "weCare@school" in SIS ParentVUE.  There are detailed instructions for weCare here.

Digital Consent Form

Fairfax County Public Schools uses a variety of resources to support student learning. In cases where FCPS contracts with a vendor to host student information, FCPS requires that the vendor adhere to the security and privacy requirements specified in a confidentiality agreement included in their contracts. FCPS does not have contracts with every instructional tool vendor.  Many valuable instructional tools are governed by Terms of Service (TOS) and include both free and paid tools. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year require parental consent.

Here is where you can find out what tools we are planning on using this year at Belvedere.

You will need to provide parent consent for each child in your household. Please click this link to do that!  Instructions on how to complete the consent form are available here.

Masks

Masks are an essential tool in preventing the spread of COVID-19 and protecting those unable to be vaccinated. To ensure a safe start to the school year, masks will be required for everyone, regardless of vaccination status, inside FCPS buildings.

Students will all wear masks indoors. There are some situations in school when students and staff are permitted to remove their masks, including:

  • When actively eating or drinking (if eating indoors, individuals are required to put their masks back on when not actually eating or drinking)
  • When outside (e.g. outdoor recess, outdoor physical education, outdoor instructional groups; anyone not fully vaccinated is recommended, but not required, to wear a mask in crowded settings)

Water Bottles

Due to COVID-19, school water fountains are not available.  We encourage parents to send an empty reusable water bottle in their child’s backpack, which can be filled at classroom sinks.

Screen for Illness Every Day, Stay Home When Sick

One of the most important prevention strategies guidelines is screening students daily for any signs of illness prior to leaving home for school. Any student who is ill or has COVID-like symptoms should remain at home. The daily health screening questionnaire and all translated versions can be found on our Health and Safety Guidance webpage

This document provides the details of the policies and protocols related to COVID-19, and it is continually updated to align with public health guidance as it evolves during the school year. Daily completion of the health screening is done on an honor basis and does not need to be sent to the school.

Read more about checking for symptoms and how to prepare to return to school after illness.

School Supplies

Lists of recommended school supplies for each grade (K-5) can be found here.

PTA Kindergarten Playdate moved to Friday, August 20

Dear Kindergarteners,

Welcome to Belvedere--we are thrilled to have you! Due to bad weather we are re-scheduling the Kindergarten playdate to Friday, August 20. The playdate is hosted by the PTA and will be at the school’s playground from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Please come meet the PTA Board and your fellow classmates and parents!  This event is a great way to mingle and meet new parents and classmates, hopefully making the little ones' transition into this new and exciting stage a little easier.
